To compare FFXIV to a game like D3 is just insane. 1.18 Should have released in February. They are taking essay too long.

I'm probley in the biggets UK/EU social ls and it has 16/54 people at 6pm. The people on my firends list haven't logged in since well before 1.8. And you might see one person shout every couple of hours. I must be on the wrong server. :/

lol I am the one who is emo? Yeah I have 175 active people I talked to in the past month. At least, probably twice that. Also saying the game has "no community" is not an "inarguable" opinion. I am pretty sure I am within my rights to disagree with your (incorrect) assessment, especially when our experiences are so vastly different.

Selbina's community is probably the best community I've ever seen in an MMO.
    • FFXI's design was fairly good at promoting a strong community, but I was on a drama heavy server that tarnished that after years of endgame competition.
    • Seradon on Vanguard had some really cool people, but overall I don't feel that game supported a cohesive community very well. (evidence of this was awkward group leveling after cap was raised)
    • In EQ2 I played on Antonia Bayle because it was supposed to have a good community. It wasn't as good as advertised.
    • LotRo I don't even remember what server I played on because it simply wasn't a memorable community.
    • AoC was rampant with *&^%$^&# (game design encouraged this behavior)
    • WoW was rampant with *&^%$^&# (game design encouraged this behavior)
    • WAR was rampant with *&^%$^&# (game design encouraged this behavior)
    • CoH was full of helpful and fairly nice people (comic book fans I guess?) but the game at the time didn't support community building very well
    • Aion had it's share of *&^%$^&#, and had poor grouping/pvp mechanics which hurt its community.

To contrast that, on Selbina I have only 2 people on my blacklist who I put there recently for their rude behavior in camp stealing. I know of a few more people aside from that who I wouldn't want to be in a linkshell with, but otherwise can tolerate. 2 people out of a server of thousands is a pretty damn good ratio.

I have I think 80 people on my friend's list, but some have quit (I started playing on Sept 22, 2010). I said 50-100 because I generally have at least 20 of them online every night, and a lot of people who had quit have recently came back to the game. I don't have people in my linkshells on my friend's list so there is no overlap there. Most people I group with and talk to on Selbina, even brand new players I find to be pretty likeable people.

Diablo III isn't an MMO, Its not going to have a bunch of constant content updates like an MMO, the storyline is going to be pretty much set in stone once it starts and you wont see major changes to it except from expansions. Its also going to be full of PVP trolls and RMT idiots just trying to make money off the built in money making system.

FFXIV and Diablo III are in two different genres, targeting two different player types. I personally have no interest in Diablo III for multiple reasons.

    1. The team who made it is not the team who made I and II.
    2. The storyline of two explicitly states that Diablo was destroyed permanently, he can't return after his stone was destroyed by the Hero in II. But magically he returns in III. I hate lore retcons like that. Its really a shit move.
    3. I'm really tired of static RPG's like Diablo, Pick a class and your stuck with the skills only they know. Its really boring. I prefer RPG's where you build a character, not a class. Leveling up multiple options and mixing and matching the skills YOU want to use. Games like Deus Ex, FFXIV, Skyrim, Kingdom of Amalur (Which needs an easier name)

Static character trees really are boring.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Is FFXIV up against what clock?

    The money clock of SE?

As in is SE going to run out of money to fund the game?

Only if SE isn't making money from their other businesses that can fund FFXIV.

And from what I can find on Google, no, SE is not running out of money.

They are going to make a shitload in two weeks with Deus Ex: Human Revolution. They have the new Tomb Raider coming soon as well. KH3DS even though the 3DS is one of nintendos first major Flop Consoles since the Virtual Boy will sell really well, though I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up on the PSP/PSV.

Oh then you have all the casual games they sell on IOS and Android, FFT, FFIV, FFIII, Bubble Bobble, Space Invaders, etc.

Oh THEN you have Manga which is probably one of thier biggest divisions. They own popular series like Soul Eater and Full Metal Alchemist. Every time Adult Swim airs an episode of FMA:B Square gets a few pennies you know.

Oh THEN You have Playarts. Which is the Toy store SE owns which designs and sells toys for games, NOT just Final Fantasy anymore. They do Bleach, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Halo, and many others as well as Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, etc.

Rift came out, XIV is still here. Can you haters make up your mind, so we all know what to tag threads with?
Half those games, have not even launched, and Cataclysm did leave FFXIV where it is now, wish is nowhere in the MMO map.

I see XIV at a stand still.

It will get a few new people now and then, maybe returning players, and it will also lose just as much players also.

I know XIV will suffer when new games get released, no matter time it is, but the effects will be so small because the population is small to begin with lol. Its like a few people going home early at a party or a few strangers turn up, do you really notice it? Does it even make a difference? Party still sucks.

lol at the trolls spouting hyperboles and trying to convince everyone that this game has "10 players" (because they are probably convinced that if they repeat some crap enough times it magically becomes true).

Funny that I've seen the same people spelling doom for this game over and over for the last 9 months, with every release of any even slightly hyped game, and those people have been proven wrong time and time again. Looks like the solid improvements FXIV is getting and the people coming back are sending them in a panic and they're trying to spread some more FUD.

Sorry mates. This game isn't going to "die", as much as you'd love to see that. It's improving faster than any other on the market, and people are coming back to it and will continue to do so, despite you continuing to troll the forums and publicizing other games like your life depended on them. It must be quite unpleasant for you to be completely inconsequential, that's why you come here everyday to drool all that venom.

What this game really needs are moderators working on the week end to close rubbish off topic threads like this.
