Don't know if this system was productive at some point.
During Beta of ARR I've read something about, that the gear had to get bound to fully benefit from its stats. Actually this is not part of the game.

Never heard this one before o.o But if that's true, then that's at least something =D (Not that it matters much to me these days, now that I have all crafters to 40+ and don't need to rely on menders anymore XD But a gil saved is a gil gained :3 )
This would also be an intersting system, but would require that they make said gear convertible. Though... While that would mean that lower-level dungeons would get more players going back to them for more of that gear to SB and convert, it would also mean that less of the gear would end up in the hands of the actually levelling people, who are the ones who'd benefit the most from them ^^;
Need / Greed. If the new player is in there and they need something, will beat out anyone who aint their class.Never heard this one before o.o But if that's true, then that's at least something =D (Not that it matters much to me these days, now that I have all crafters to 40+ and don't need to rely on menders anymore XD But a gil saved is a gil gained :3 )

In before someone posts complaing they converted their Dreadwyrm gear by accident and complaing it shouldnt be convertable :P
LotA, ST and HA gear should be flagged as convertible tho now.

i think the spiritbonding systeme is not right... the idea for the V1 was very nice, but now with the pace of content we have the spiritbonding (especially with the limited utility of the materia) need to be changed. i get it's used for create a flow of content crafted and selled, but soo far it's too limited as impact.
i seriously don't know how change the systeme (since i haven't really think about it) but i feel it need a revamp massive, same for the materia system (with about half of the materia useless so far)

By chance is it even possible to Forbidden meld blue or green gear that has no materia slots? If that's the case then they should at least make the spirit bond on non convertible pieces increase the success rate of forbidden melds, if it can be done at all.
Still doesn't help if you're a level 16 archer trying to get that foestriker's tabard, and there's an i120 monk who wants it for materia... ^^ Currently, the seals offered by the gear in those dungeons isn't usually enough to entice higher-leveled people to roll either need or greed on them.
(Then again, I've been in runs where it's been me and three low-leveled people and things have been lost because they're all "oh, but I have the NQ gear given to me in the lvl15 quest, so I don't need that pink/green gear" without even looking at the stats T_T
(Or in Brayflox, where tanks pass on pink scalemail cos they automatically assume it's lancer/dragoon gear without even looking at the mdef of it -_- AND they're currently in DoW gear or lvl20-25 plate.)
Gives more reason to do the low level dungeons in the first place.

Maybe they are keeping it for when they'll do higher level materia
