Like you, I lose quite a bit of faith in the overall community by reading the forums as frequently as I do, but like the OP, on my server I've had nothing but a 99% wonderful experience since my first day logging in almost a year ago. Easily the best MMO community I've ever had the opportunity to play a game with; especially with the good people in Adamantoise

I will admit, I am a glass half full guy. I choose to live that way, I try to provide that example for my daughter. Life is what you choose to make of it. I think the bonus they give for having a new player in a duty is genius. I have been grinding a bit, I am immediately happy when I see the bonus pop up and I try to pay the kindness I have received forward. Even when rushed by some people early in the game, I understood that their time is every bit as valuable as mine and politely asked for patience rather than responding rudely, I have always gotten a positive response. I have not been griefed even once in this game. UO, EQ, EQ2, AC1, AC2 WoW, DDO Neverwinter, and many more I can't say the same.

Agreed. Goblin is a pretty small community in respect to some of the other larger servers, but when new content patches drop we are bustling again. I've played since 2.0 early access and I've had many more good experiences on my server than bad. I think I only ever blacklisted one legit (non-RMT) person on my server, and after a few months I ended up in a PF with him and un-BL him to give him another chance, and he actually wasn't too bad of a guy. Must have had a bad day I guess lol.

It seems the random DF is largely the culprit for the bad behavior, but I have really not encountered it very often. And the times I do, I just choose to not engage in the bickering. I would much rather enjoy the time I get to spend with the game, rather than complain about someone picking up 6 mobs instead of 8

Anyone have any reason for this phenomenon here? In some of those other games general chat was often abusive, a lot of griefing, kill stealing, people would train mobs on you to keep you from gathering, public shaming over performance. I fave seen so little of that here. i think the mechanics help prevent much of that. The bonuses for grouping with first timers is great. Is the MMO community starting to evolve? or does this game just attract a more mature player because it requires a subscription and is not World of Warcraft? Whatever the reason I am incredibly happy I decided to play and I must credit the now shut down site of Massively for giving me the idea to try. They wrote a ton of very nice things about FFXIV and I am happy to say they were right about every single one of them. I hope they relaunch as MassivelyOP soon.

For the most part, S-E makes it easy for people to get along. The fact that there's a shared-tap system for mobs in this game goes a long way towards that. Groups are easy to find and are rewarding to participate in, even if you say nothing but just play your role. Mechanics in higher-end content are somewhat punishing but, critically, they're easy to explain and help people with. This game has some shortcomings in this area still -- the Hunt mechanics come to mind -- but altogether, seeing other players in the world is generally a very good thing.

When World of Warcraft's newest expansion released late last year, I couldn't stomach it for more than a month. No matter how much polish they put on it, there are some things that are fundamentally broken on the social level. There's a deeply-ingrained antipathy in it's very systems, from the way it still has an exclusive-tap system for mobs, to the artificial and narratively insipid "faction war" that deliberately sets the playerbase against itself, in a way that fuels full-on harassment at real-world community events.

Simply put, a massively multiplayer game should never, absolutely never lead one to feel that the existence of other people in the game world serves only as a nuisance.

    World of Warcraft does that.

    Final Fantasy XIV does not.

I agreed that the FFXIV community has been the best that I've experienced in an MMORPG. There are times when you get the odd bad experience but overall the community has been pleasant .

I've been meeting a lot of rather disappointing people lately as I move into end game coil raiding... people who remind me to never have faith or hope in the human race (I'm trying to put it nicely here lol). But I've been in WoW, I've been all over Facebook, I've been on LoL, I've been in various other internet communities and I can say FFXIV is a lot better than what I've experienced in other places. I certainly can't expect perfection since humans aren't perfect but this game is something I can deal with while other communities I just NOPE out of.

FF14 online is open for everyone, but not everyone can play this game. FF fans normally who play this game, and most of them are not from LOL, DOTA 2 or WoW. WoW community is rotten and sarcasm is everywhere. This game is PVE base mostly, so no faction hatred.
