It's not a matter of Square making more or less money. Some people prefer having the game on a disc for faster installation and as a backup install in case you can't get a connection to Square's servers to update or reinstall. I paid less money for a digital copy of the game when 2.0 came out and it's still a little bit cheaper now compared to a disc copy. Square is still making money off of digital copies. The only reason the physical copies are higher priced are to cover the costs of producing the boxes, discs, and shipping them to retailers.
