Oh, and there were about 6 resists, so oftentimes we had to have 6 different types of gear. And this is before factoring in things like items that had to be clicked for effects, debuff prevention items, potions, food, and water (you would lose stats if you didn't have food and water regularly. And it also gave stats later in the game's life.)
    Curious as to when you played EQ1? I played for a good 7 years or more. I was in a couple of raiding guilds. Never once had resist gear. With the resist stats on gear + AAs+ buffs + the veteran buff I never needed resist gear. EQ did have a lot of slots though. Good and bad I suppose. I do miss a lot of things from that game.

    When the first never had reasonable resists, the second was hard enough to get that you didn't allocate points to them, the third was definitely a thing (but not lumped together until later), and the last didn't exist.
    We're talking Kunark->Velious->Luclin->PoP era.
    I came back and found oodles of resists on gear. I'm personally glad they changed it...my inventory squealed with glee.
    To give an example of what I mean, resists for Nagafen and Vox had to be over 100 or so, and they were introductory raids.
    Here's the resist loadout from a Velious-era endgame piece of gear, that pretty much requires being able to farm a few dozen nagafens in order to get: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=5079
    So yeah...I still had to wear resist gear while getting that.
    In contrast, here's a piece of Defiant armor, which drops from random trash of the appropriate level all over the game world starting a few years ago in order to allow lower level players to not get slaughtered by rats: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=84838
    Note to get the former item, you had to be level 60 and an endgame raider at the time. And you thought FFXIV's gear scaling was out of whack.

    Ya, we played at similar times. I played well beyond PoP. That's when AAs and veteran stuff was coming out. I was a hardcore raider then so perhaps it was a bit easier for me to get those things. I would actually like to see similar stats to the 2nd item you linked. Would certainly make things interesting. Of course I would also like to see AAs, but that is never going to happen.

    Some of the stats they added are downright nonsensical, though.
    I mean, DoT shielding? In EQ where everything and their granny has some form of DoT that lasts for freakin' ever (Rabies is fairly common and lasts 45 minutes), sure, but jeez.
