If somebody isn't pulling their weight in the party just heal them a lot less to mess with them. I'll sometimes stagger heals for somebody who keeps eating something they can easily evade and I'm not even talking about somebody with lag. If you have lag people can visibly see it so when you BS about lag then we know. Healers can see everything (hopefully i know a few healers who still tunnel vision). So if one guy carries on messing up just take longer and longer to heal him he'll soon start moving if he has any sense. Or he'll be one of those guys who just die all the time then harass you in chat "Rez.....Bro rez me....wtf bro? REZ HEALS....YOU SUCK REZ ME" Memo for those people the longer you whine the longer you are probably going to be left on the floor and the more people in the party will hate you for distracting them with useless chat. We use that chat box to communicate tactics when we don't have voice chat not to cry because you died again.

That said it's for everyone in the party to do their job and if you are not doing that and making life harder for others who need to pick up your slack then you shouldn't be there. It's not fair if one healer is really trying and the other keeps screwing up or for some DPS working hard to do damage while taking as little damage as possible and one DPS just eats every AoE and dies so he can't do damage. Or for one MT to be doing everything and the OT is slacking and so on. It's a team effort it's not others job to carry you so you need to go in with the attitude that every run will be your best ever.

    1. Memorizing repetitive PvE encounters has little to do with skill.
    2. The main target group are World of Warcraft players. Those aren't exactly known to be smart.

In EVE, we have a saying: "When an EVE players goes to World of Warcraft, the average IQ in both games goes up."

You don't even need to memorize stuff, but the fact that red is bad seems hard for many to grasp. And if we go with that logic, then nothing in this game takes any degree of skill and everything is just mind-numbing tank and spank.

Sure, if we go there, one could argue that excelling in PvP is the only place in any game that takes "true" skill, but not maby people play this game for PvP.

Ironically though TEX used to be a gateway for EX primals. You can't do MEX, LEX, etc unless you've cleared TEX. But people started whining.
Even so, the thing about TEX's landslide is that you can screw up, but the other 7 players kick ass and you get "carried" so you can still clear the content.

And the only time the dps NEED to get hit by an AoE in Xande, they don't and I die. I don't play mrfixit anymore because my job is healing, not babysitting. If they want to die I let them.

Quite honestly? A lot of people feel DPS is a role where it doesn't matter if they suck. People who are scared of the pressures of tank or healer go there, so they won't get yelled at and cause a wipe if they fail.

Guess what? DPS checks are becoming more and more common. We DO notice when a DPS messes up. We need to just start putting the same pressure on DPS that we put on healers and tanks. Do your damn job or get the hell out.

Make players who get hit by avoidable mechanics lose 10 points on their loot rolls per hit!

You know, I was just thinking about something very similar this morning while reading the thread about primal ponies. I relayed a frustration about this weekend doing many, many runs of Ifrit EX. The particular example, was that on Saturday night, I got in with a particular group and we ended up getting about 7 kills in before party disbanded. Well, the DRG who kept dying every single time (sometimes twice per run) ended up winning the Nightmare mount that dropped with a 99, and I had to think, why the hell do these kinds of people always get rewarded for their failures? Then it made me think of how awesome it would be if your roll chances were reduced based on poor performance, which sounds similar to what you are saying.

This is a very nice idea actually. Especially if they show the rolls as "87-(10*5)=37", to emphasise why the end roll is so low. I was talking to someone else, and his suggestion was some sort of stacking debuff every time you get hit. Not sure what's good, as the most obvious "-10% attack damage per stack for 2 minutes" tends to punish the whole party rather than than the individual, which I'd rather avoid.

The other most pressing issue would be that it would have to be something that is difficult to ignore. Bad players won't notice that the damage they're doing is going down, or that they're not doing any damage at all. They don't notice that their life has dropped to 10%. All they know are "am I in range of attacking?" and "Am I still alive?".
