If you didn't live or grew up in Asia, you probably wouldn't understand. Most people cannot afford to have their own system, that's why internet cafes are so popular, they are an after ditching school activity for most kids high school and below. A $10-20 monthly subscription can probably feed your family for a week or even a month. They sell game cards which gives you a certain number of hours of play or they simply play by how many minutes or hours they can afford to pay the internet cafe attendant. It's the internet cafes buying the games mostly and sometimes pirating it. So yeah, with a tightening economy, those internet cafes are making less due to kids having to show up less, therefore subscription based games suffer. There are exceptions such as people who hold professional jobs of course.

In the US, most people can easily build Tri-SLI GTX 580s with 1500 watt power supplies on 3 46" monitors and easily pay that monthly subscription off, because that's like a few hours of work at McDonalds or daily lunch money allowance. Even homeless people have internet and cellphones.
