I use stoneskin in this method as well. SS, DS Medica II + Regen (on tank only) then Swiftcast HOLY dem to def...
For me its a habbit from 1.0 that still works. Stoneskin + regen on the tank will let me focus on say a dragoon about to hit the floor. It prevents damage while regen tops them off and with proper use of shroud i never have mp issues. Now if its a crazy big speedrun pull i wont hesitate to drop cure 2s.
The issue about that is that holy stuns all targets twice, which lets regen do what it does best making a 2nd stoneskin cast completely optional. Plus on the time you spend casting that ss you can spend casting holy, same thing applies if swiftcast is used (holy>swift>holy) which will lead to 3 holy for 2 stuns rather than 2 holy for 2 stuns.
I also like to think if mobs die faster tank will also take less dmg so dps > mitigation on crowd pulls.
Player
NEVER expect ANYTHING from a Duty Finder Healer...
Trust me.. i never go stance in any CT, because the other healer are mostly terrible or dont give a damn about trying.
I'm not just saying I was using it for the stun. I was spamming Holy for the dps. The tank was very competent, so they avoided AoEs like a beast a knew when to use Cooldowns. CS > SS > Divine Seal > Regen > CS > DPS Spam > SS > DPS Spam > CS > SS > Regen.... That's what I was doing for a large portion of the time. I would occasionally have to pop a Bene or a Cure II but other than that it was Regen + SS.The issue about that is that holy stuns all targets twice, which lets regen do what it does best making a 2nd stoneskin cast completely optional. With the exception of one farming group back in 2013, every single piece of content I've played with PUG's. I then took a year off because the content wasn't quite where I wanted it to spend time on.
And if I kept accurate track I'd say 20% of WHM's do pure healing, and the remaining 80% will not. I'm fairly certain these people don't WHM in 4-man groups or HM Primals because they can't be carried if all the healers don't know what they're doing.
If you play PUG's, you overgear. Assume everyone wants to speed run, and nobody wants to lead/teach.
If you have a regular party, you can take more time to explain (really the tank should be explaining since they're the ones that decide how much aggro they can take.) I don't expect Tanks or DPS to know WHM's Job, but most Tanks seem to at least say something if they would prefer a different tactic.
If your PUG members are that bad, it's triage time. Allow non-essential party members to kill themselves if they try so hard to do so, and then leave them on the floor.
This works especially well if your second healer is either a troll or otherwise unwilling/unable to do their job properly. Leaving them dead tends to simplify the rest of the fight. I would much rather solo heal than carry a dead-weight healer.
With that mindset, I treat Stoneskin as a cure only when a Cure would be an Overcure. After a single pull, whether speedrun size or no, I assume the habits they used for that first one will be about what they do for the rest positioning, Flashing/Overpowering, etc. A Stoneskin may be appropriately timed just as the Flash goes out to refresh the Stoneskin well before any substantial damage is taken. Similarly, I fel Stoneskin is more effective during things like Sentinel pops, since the lower damage taken will mean longer Stoneskin durations. More time to Holy? Yes please.
I didn't said you were, what i said is that when mobs are stunned regen will heal the tank by quite heavy amounts, so putting that extra stoneskin is unnecessary.I'm not just saying I was using it for the stun. OT:
Why didn't SCH get the Enhanced Stone Skin ? Isn't our job mitigation lol (jealous SCH speaking)
On topic here:
If you're a SCH not using SS shame on you......Average Sheilding on a decent geared PLD is around 800-900 HP and it stacks with aldo so decent aldos now are around 1200-1300 not including crit....so your looking at almost 2K HP just by using SS, which in our case MP is plenty :P
