That will depend on how they set up levels 50 to 60. If they expect new players to do most of the 2.X endgame content between levels 50 and 59 then there should not be a problem.Expansions are typically the best time for an MMO to pick up new subscribers as they usually reset gear and content progression with a new level cap. If the current relic quest series continued into 3.0 then you'll have a LOT of new players hitting level 60 and finding themselves being forced to grind hundreds of hours in old content before they can progress... From a game design standpoint that would be a frankly stupid path to take.

I keep seeing you mention this quote but no one has actually cited a source for it. I do recall him saying there will be something akin to the relic quests in the expansion, but never have I seen him state that the current quest series will directly carry over into the expansion. I have a feeling a lot of people are reading too much into his answers to see what they want to see.It was said in an interview a while ago by Yoshi that it will continue somehow in 3.1. It's on the forums a couple of times already.
And for people mentioning gear reset I doubt it. I'm thinking main story will kinda be needed and that in itself won't reset gear. Just make more of it. I'd say the current endgame gear will be about what we get at lvl60(with lvl52/53 being i90(to finish the current main story). And then the next threadmill starts. It was also mentioned at one point by Yoshi that ilvl should stop ~150/160(sorry can't find that but it was during a live letter at one point).
As for cosmetic value. Not really for me it's BiS due to the substats. All other weapons I use for glamour though.
As for the gear reset i don't think you understand what I mean. When people reach lvl 60 all the gear we obtained from coil and other progression paths will no longer be 'the best'. Typically the new level range will cover all the upgrade tiers that once came from endgame progression, resulting in everyone being equally geared at the new level cap, regardless of whether they did the previous endgame or not. This is what is considered a progression reset as those that did progression content before are now back on the same footing as those that did not. Without this sort of a reset new players would find it harder and harder to catch up, and when it looks like they never will they get frustrated and quit. SE's primary goal with an expansion will be to keep the current subscribers happy whilst drawing in new ones; without a progression reset they will fail at the latter.
This is precisely why they cannot have a continuing relic upgrade quest in 3.0 that requires new players to do 2.0 content... Can you imagine doing the zodiac step and being forced to run the same dungeon over and over when the majority of the player base has moved on to the new level 60 dungeons? It'll be 100x worse than it is now with no one else interested in running those dungeons.
There are loads of new zones being added with a new main scenario to lead us through them. Our first job to 60 will likely be entirely leveled through main scenario quests much like our first job to 50. Do you really see a new player spending their time between 50 and 60 doing old content that won't offer them much xp or useful loot when the main scenario quest series will hold their hand through all of it?

Whats causing me pause to continue the relic line is "Will there always be a goods-as or better weapon easier to obtain" that runs along side it (in ref to Soldiery weapons... Yagrush, etc, Shiva weapons and possibly the poetics weapons if they move the allagan drop into WoD like they did the Unidentified). If thats the case, I'd rather farm WoD, poetics and etc ingred to upgrad/unweather a bunch of times than do that whole mind-numbing grind fest (only to be made obsolete soon after anyway).
If it will be some kind of weapon that will be completely unique and worth the inevitable insanity and rocking in a corner of a padded cell, then yeah, I'd do it.

A source in Japanese... please give a translated source. I'm all too aware of how innacurate people like to be when translating in order to suit their argument; we saw enough of that in the furore over the localisation of the Midgardsormr encounter.
Does Yoshi explicitly state that your current Zodiac weapon will continue to be upgraded in 3.0? Or does he actually just say that there will be a relic quest series in the expansion?

Tell me what the Japanese developers call the zodiac weapon chain and I can take a crack at translating it. I don't wanna have to translate the whole document -_-A source in Japanese... please give a translated source. From a simple google translate what Yoshi actually says is that the upgrade in 2.51 is the ultimate form and players will be expected to obtain a new weapon at level 60.
The actual section dealing with the relic is this though if you wish to take a crack at translating it:

It states 3.1 will continue to. Continue with misleading people because you're too lazy to translate it. It says it there that yes, 2.51 will give ultimate form, and it also says th at it will continue in 3.1.

How can you have an ultimate form if it continues? You realise that ultimate means final right?
I'm not being lazy. I cannot read Japanese. You, however, keep stating things with a link to a Japanese interview without ever offering an actual translation of the text in question. If you can read it then please give us a literal translation; if not then I'm sorry but I can't take your word for it.
I will happily apologise and retract my statement if you can prove me wrong with the translation.
