    Request: Tanking Simulator

An instanced run for a tank, teaching them the fundamentals of grabbing and maintaining enmity. It also would be nice if it were designed to stop speed-running by making enmity slowly reduce over time; so if you try to pull everything to one spot then the enemies would stop following you and start attacking the NPCs aiding you, resulting in a fail.

I am sick of being forced to do these speed runs with tanks who just can not tank. Please introduce an instanced battle to train tanks .

Yeah, I figured the job quests would have kind of taught you basic stuff. Did the level 50 pld quest and was like, hey cool, i get to tank these guys while the NPCs attack that thing over there......and fail. Turns out they'll draw the mobs of people away while I do awful pld dps. Hell, whm at least I got to heal a tree.

    Anyway.

I really think the job quests would be a perfect place to teach you the powers they're giving you. Hell, ninja seems ok in the way they worked it, as in giving you the new ability then making the quest a practice using it. All the other jobs are like, hey, go kill that over there and we'll give you a new ability that you didn't need to do the job we just asked of you.

    Very much agreed.

Tank should get some kind of enmity control/teaching job quest. DPS should get some kind of basic DPS rotation lesson and dummy for parsing or something.

Why not a training room period. SE create some basic training scenarios, but also allow users to upload their own scenarios. And make this a separate software from the main game.

Are these situations not what Guildhests are for?

Guildhests, the same as dungeons are done as quickly as possible by the speed runners. They don't do them properly.

Personally, I have a deeper hatred of DPS not dodging easily avoidable AoE's during trial battles and then blaming the healers for not keeping them alive... when said healers are practically blowing through their MP and Aetherflows just trying to keep them alive.

But I agree. There should be a training program for proper Tanking. I don't mind speed runs, so long as the Tank in question can actually hold aggro. Proper training missions that teach them how to do that would be nice. Lord knows I've seen my fair share of Tanks that have no idea how to hold aggro and, in certain battles, move the enemies around to put them in a position where they DON'T have the advantage. *Remember's Brayflox NM run in which the Tank did nothing to move the final boss out of the poison puddles*

EDIT: My first post on this forum. o.O

Guildhests are actually designed really poorly for training tanks. They often through too many mobs at you in the low level ones before you have proper hate generating skills and then throw too few at you in the higher level ones when you do have the proper skills.

In fact most Guildhests are just about teaching people how to not stand in the 'uh-oh'.

Speed run tanks that irritate me are the ones who are not geared for it. They want to speed run dungeons that are not item level synced with such a low HP pool! I blow so much MP just to keep them up and then you have DPS that want to speed run and they are spirit-bonding so their DPS is pitiful, again blowing all my MP to get DPS up and healing the improperly geared tank!

I hate the people that force speed runs on people when they don't have the gear to do them efficiently. That is why I want the simulator to teach people how much they can take on with the gear they are using so that they are not inconveniencing other party members.

Anyway, moving on from that blatantly aggressive post. We do need some instanced battles/simulations for people to learn how to deal with their role. Particularly the important ones.
