With that logic we have 'they can make everything in the game easier then they should'. Just because something 'can' be done doesn't mean it 'should' be done.

What's the downside to making macro's more effective?

There's a difference between 'more effective' and 'being lazy'. You shouldn't be able to use marcos for everything in game, specially in battle due to how quickly something can change, and the macro is still going off in the backround, so the moment a buff or something comes up, it's auto used and it could screw your team over if you don't have something when you need it the most (Damage mitigation in Odin/Titan, unable to provoke, ninja unable to use ninjitsu due to using anything else between mudras)

When it comes to stuff in battle, you need to learn what to use and when, not just use a macro for your skills and expect to keep up to someone who does everything manually.
