About the name issue its been used often used pre mogstation option to change charname. Put a char with same name try to transfer server to that server and it seems to ask you for a name switch (ppl just retransferred to former server after that) ^^

I've read a lot of posts by folks trying to get in the really populated servers and the measures they need to take to do it.
I'm curious, even if you get your character into one, since the server has so many players, won't you just face a long queue to log in? and what about lag, won't that also be an issue?
I've only once seen the queue line to log in and I was shocked to see it, but it made me wonder about the overpopulated servers.
Over-crowded servers have queues to log in, lag issues, problems with the scaling of open-world content (e.g. hunts getting such huge crowds they're over in seconds and hard to get credit for), no available housing, and possibly a few other issues I can't think of off-hand. On the other hand, the main reason they used to be favorites in older MMOs —an easier time finding people for group content— doesn't really apply here, at least not to the same extent, since DF is cross-server anyway.I've read a lot of posts by folks trying to get in the really populated servers and the measures they need to take to do it.

Overall, I think that if your friends are already there is the only really compelling reason for choosing a crowded server in spite of all that. (And where feasible, persuading those friends to come join you on a less crowded one may be preferable even in that case. It's just that that's not always going to be feasible.)
Just want to post a quick disclaimer on this comment. Do not use this method any more if name changing is all you are trying to accomplish. The dual transfers cost $36 usd, the name chang is only $10 usd (at time of posting). If you want to server transfer and change your name the qouted method is the cheapest way to do so.
Let me clear up some mis-information going around about Balmung. Yes it is closed for character creation almost 24/7 now due to it's popularity. If there is a maintenance coming up soon, you can wait until right before or after maintenance to create a character. At this time the server should be open. You just have to make sure you time it right. If you would like to get onto Balmung much quicker though, if you pay the $18 character transfer fee, you should get on Balmung that same day. It does not play by the same rules as the character creation system. About 3 weeks ago I paid to get my wife's character transferred to Balmung and within 5 minutes she was transferred. This is subject to change but I haven't seen anyone have issues with this.
Secondly I'd like to point out that the queue to get into Balmung is not bad at all. Most I have seen was 76, but that was immediately after a server crash so a lot of people were getting back in. It took about 5 mins to get in with 76 in the queue too. So for 99% of the time if you do get a queue to log into Balmung, you're waiting maybe 2 minutes max to get in as it should only be 2-20.
lastly the lag. I haven't experienced a ton of actual server lag. Yes you get server lag every once in awhile, but it is on rare occasion and not a regular thing. Most people i hear complaining have issues on their end and not SE's.
So I hope this clears up any questions people have about Balmung. If you have any more let me know and I'll do my best to answer them. I've been on this server since it was first created, so I am a good source. ^.^
While I cannot refute this particular case, I have experienced issues transfering a character to exodus in september. It is also important to note SE dropped the ban hammer hard (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...s-%28Jan.-8%29)during the time frame you note your occurnce of transfer so your personal experience may not directly translate. At this point more emphirical data may be needed, the 2 samples directly refute each other and, the world transfer service tos specificly state it is subject to character creation limitations.snips Let me clear up some mis-information going around about Balmung. ..... Here's my evidence of the transfer service not playing by the same rules as the character creation. The day I paid for the transfer to balmung, I logged into FFXIV and checked the status of the server. It was closed. This was around 10am CST on a Tuesday. It is not a time where the server is going to be open. Immediately after checking the server status for about 30 minutes of refreshing the list every 3 minutes. I then logged into mog station and paid for the transfer. 5 minutes after that, the character transferred. So no, the character creation on the server was not opened up at the time I paid for the transfer. This shows that there's a different set of rules it goes by.
I'd also like to point out that character creation and transfers have nothing to do with how many characters are created on a server. It's the "concurrent logins" to the server that matter. I had been checking at all times of the day for 2 weeks straight before I decided to pay for the transfer service. No luck finding an open time even at the "non peak" hours of 2am-8am CST. I am not the only one who has had this problem and just given up to pay for a transfer and have it happen right away.
