Ya spoiler tag doesn't work here so us the HB /HB tags.

    On topic:

We don't really know his goal but it seems he knows something we do not which could relate to Dark Hydaelyn.

Right now he appears to only remain with us to observe the situation with the battle against Ascians and the current state of the Eorzea since our character get involved in these things.

He only removed Hydaelyn's influence due to know she is absent from watching the world and right now he is mostly testing and observing the Warrior of Light to see what will he or she do now he or she is no longer "chosen" by Hydaelyn.

Also I do remember that Midgardsomr mentioned making a contract with us which is why he only appears around the Warrior of Light so we are basically bound to Midgardsomr now. However, he has no interests in controlling us but only to observe.

The Ascians also appear to have no knowledge of Midgardsomr's ability to defy Hydaelyn's influence.

I won't be surprised if the only reason the Battle of Ishgard end in our victory is because Midgardsomr told the dragons to retreat since he appears to hint that he no longer has control over the Dragons due to his current state but it is possible he may gain back enough to command the other Dragons again.

I guess spoiler tags dont count at 10char

Well it is a temproary state we are on now we no longer have the Blessing to give us the power to fight Ascians or any God like beings. The Blessing was the only reason why our character could do what countless others could not but now it is gone the Warriors of Light are just ordinary adventurers.

We most likely will get a new Plot Armor in 3.0 (probably very early in 3.0 story) due to needing a type of Plot Armor to allow us to fight the new Primals and to resist their influence.

Of course there is still a chance we may get the new Plot Armor in 2.5 during Battle of Ishgard as well.

and ya Tags only count as 1 character.

    My thoughts:

It seemed kind of obvious to me what Square is doing, but maybe I'm missing something?

Midgardsormr stripped the Blessing of Light away from us with what looked like, absolutely no resistance or challenge involved. Firstly, what does this mean of Hydaelyn? Are dragons that powerful, or has Hydaelyn been weakened so far that she doesn't even attempt a struggle to keep her Blessing within us?

And then, after the plot armor was taken away from us, Midgardsormr decides to "follow us just to observe". However, "observation" isn't exactly what he is doing is it? Upon leaving the Keeper of the Lake and returning back to the Rising Stones, we tell Minfilia exactly what transpired, the loss of the Blessing, and even that Midgardsormr has a vested interest in what is going on. Basically the second Midgardsormr gets a window of privacy with our Warrior, he belittles him for being a puppet.

However, I think Midgardsormr is pulling on those puppet strings himself, if you will.

He is psychologically coercing us. He is implanting the seeds into our thoughts, and I believe will continuing sowing them when the next part of the story is revealed. An observer provides no input; an observer merely observes. Couple this with Iceheart and Elidibus (that's the white robe Ascian right?) telling us for the most part that if we knew "the truth" we might not be enemies. Lucia was a bit unapproachable when the magical barrier that protects Ishgard was mentioned by Alphinaud, and basically diverts that question to be unexplained.

It looks like to me, our Warrior of Light is being primed to actually ally with the dragons and by helping them receiving some kind of Blessing from the Dragons for 3.0, instead of being opposed to them. Would love to hear other's input though as well!

The story may be leading to a plot twist with Ishgard being the antagonist of 3.0 with the Dragons being the good guys and our allies against a Ascian controlled Ishgard

If true most likely at some point in 3.0 we continue to assume Ishgard is our allies but then in a twist of plot the Pope of Ishgard reveals his true motives and turns on us while also revealing he is a ally to the Ascians. We then escape from Ishgard with the help of certain Ishgard citizens and a certain Ishgard character we already know. From there Ishgard becomes split into two factions with one loyal to the Ascians and the other fighting to take back Ishgard from the Ascians and current Pope.

During that time we are then revealed the truth about what really happened all those years ago between the Dragons and Ishgard by Mid which reveals it was Ishgard that started the war all along and the Dragons were the actual victims. From there the Dragons become our allies and we head to the Sky Continent where Mid tells us that if we wish to defeat Lahabrea and Eldibus in Ishgard we will need a new power we can only obtain from the Primals of the Sky Continent.

While we are in the Sky Continent our Ishgard allies fight in a Civil War in hopes of freeing Ishgard from Lahabrea and Eldibus control. However, in another twist of fate something else is commanding the Dragons and has prevent Mid from freeing them from its control. Turning the Civil War into a Dragon and Human loyal to Ascian vs Dragon and Human loyal to New Ishgard war

Very interesting speculation. I think you and I are on the same page with...

Ishgard being the antagonist in 3.0, with the corrupt Pope-figure being led by Ascians

The one thing that worries me about your scenario..

Ishgard is going to be in one hell of a predicament if they have to deal with a civil war on top of Dravanian and Dragon resistance. Even the warrior of light (or whatever our moniker for Heavensward may be) would have a tall task trying to intervene in all of these things. Should be very exciting!
