It's likely that the elezen form is his true form as it is the only one where you can see his face, we don't know much about Odin anyway, except that he wants revenge on Urth.

Okay then. that's what I'll do. I'll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgement. All these people who's ancestors devoted themselves to you, sacrificed themselves to you. Can you hear them singing?
This has gone back and forth a few times, so I looked it up to be sure.
Odin killed Urth (and Wiyu, for that matter), and was then sealed by the Allagan Hero.

true but in counter to that we do have the sightseeing log for Urth's gift:
Ancient writings tell that in exchange for her lifeblood, Lady Urth was able to seal the dark divinity Odin in a crystalline prison beneath a bubbling wellspring. To honor her sacrifice, the land upon which she drew her last breath still bears her name.
it could be surmised that as Odin slew Urth, her last wish and efforts to seal him proved successful. Odin being enraged at this trick may show his grudge ever continuing.

The song makes a lot more sense now.So, I guess its safe to say that the song "Answers" is the tortured Meracydians basically crying out through Bahamut? With the "my children" lines being Bahamut speaking to them? "The soul yearns for honor, and the flesh the hereafter"... They wanted vengeance and they wanted to die.
I'm just sitting here, listening to the song again, struck by the sadness of it.
Watch it with the video:
Just as Dalamud is descending -Release your hands, for your will drags us under
Dalamud cracking open after thousand of years -The Land is alive, so believe...
While the warriors of "light" look on defiantly ready to fight -Now open your eyes while our plight is repeated
Just as the scions begin to pray for the twelve to re-seal Bahamut -Bearing sins of the past, for our future is taken
Dang. Feal like a complete douche now. Gonna go and cry now a bit.
This actually makes sense. I mean when I finally got to fight Odin I was really looking for him for weeks. Wow, now I am even more of a douche. Still, who were the originals?I was thinking Odin was being kept summoned by adventurers (aka player characters) unknowingly 'praying' to him. He's someone who people want to challenge to a duel to prove their might and thus that what's continues sustains his existence. So basically we became his 'beastmen'.
Wait, so he originally didn't have a helmet?! Damn I miss out on all the good stuff.Yes. Back then, people didn't really know the difference between Odin with a player-title and without, so nobody really identified the image with being "actual Odin," but (if I remember correctly), Odin unclaimed with no title appears as an old Duskwight Elezen with his hair tied up and possible facial scarring. It may also be a unique model. Digging through all the images of him I can find, I believe these to be his true form.
Don't forget, Answers was written well before Yoshida asked to bring Dalamud down and have Bahamut break out of it. It's quite hard to pin down what the song is actually about because it's quite easy to retrofit it to lots of sentiments. The biggest clue we have is that the word forsaken appears in it, which is a word Koji Fox has said he's worked into many primal-related things.
Odin's mask only comes on when he's engaged in battle. If you can find him unclaimed, he'll be unmasked with the face of the player that's his current title. If you find him unclaimed without a player title at all, the scarred Elezen is his default appearance... if I remember correctly, always an important subclause, lol

I did find him alone, but it was dark so i couldn't really see the helmet.Don't forget, Answers was written well before Yoshida asked to bring Dalamud down and have Bahamut break out of it. As for Answers, well likely it originally referred to a lot of other things, but later, Bahamut's story was worked around the song. Think about it. In ARR we only hear Answers during the coil, with remixes all over the place, and the actual theme during the Bahamut Prime battle.
It is his theme now. He is a he, right? The song had me thiking, but B is referred to as a dragon king, so...yeah
Proved easily with the addition of Urth's Font trial.Odin's mask only comes on when he's engaged in battle. Well, kinda. It's the theme of the seventh umbral era now, and the Coil story-line was meant to wrap all that stuff up. Still, it's a damn good fit through the eyes of a Mericydian. As for Answers, well likely it originally referred to a lot of other things, but later, Bahamut's story was worked around the song. I wouldn't spend too much time trying to fit the lyrics of Answers into an game event. I like it, but it's essentially a lamentation of the fact that life is set of struggles with death at the end, and how even knowing that, people still stand up and fight. Very common in FF series (FF9 springs to mind).
Well it has supplied a new basis for why Odin keeps appearing.Odin's mask only comes on when he's engaged in battle. If you can find him unclaimed, he'll be unmasked with the face of the player that's his current title. If you find him unclaimed without a player title at all, the scarred Elezen is his default appearance... if I remember correctly, always an important subclause, lol
That Odin is the Sword, the weilder is just the tempered person who last deteated Odin and took up the sword. That the sword contains enough Aether to temper the wielder. The duskwright Elezan was probably the first one to find the Sword after it was freed
