The Development of the Gold Saucer

I am really interested in the Gold Saucer and how it gets built so quickly between patch 2.5 and 2.51. I mean, Revenant's Toll has taken multiple patches to be built up even to the point it is now (which is still incomplete).

I am posting this here in Lore as I was wondering where the resources came from to build the establishment so quickly. I mean, sure, you could say that the Manderville family commands so much revenue that they can easily undertake such an endeavour, however if that's the case, why don't they help fund the construction of Revenant's Toll in Mor Dhona?

Also, it appears that the Gold Saucer is in a desert area (fitting, considering its the same in Final Fantasy VII). That being said, is it Thanalan, and if so is it an existing area of Thanalan we can access, or is it a new zone?

It also appears to be built into the cliffs itself. It looks amazing. I am going to be really happy the first time I take the airship there and see the cut scene of it appearing in the distance.

I wonder if it will gain more rides - like a gondola, a rail shooter, an interactive play, and perhaps a horror themed inn? :P Maybe Hildebrand could employee one of his zombie friends to be the desk clerk?

There's nothing to suggest the Gold Saucer hasn't been around for ages already and we players simply haven't heard of it. Considering the hints from the devs that we'll eventually meet Hildibrand's mother I'm willing to gamble that she's the one responsible for the Saucer.

Also based on the airship approach cutscene in the 2.5 trailer I think it's out in a remote location in the Thanalan desert.

I do indeed hope that the devs continue to add to it over time though. A few new attractions every few patches or something would be fantastic. Far too many people underestimate the value of fluff and 'for fun' content in MMOs.

It would be nice to know either way. Perhaps it has been an established for some time - however considering its location, you'd think people would have known about it. Haha.

Yeah, some of the fluff stuff is great for casual players. I love all the immersion based stuff.

My guess would be either
1: People do know about it but have had no reason to bring it up to us, the player.
2: It's been under construction in secret (hens it's rather out of the way location) and Hildy will let us in on the secret just in time for the grand opening.

I hadn't considered it might have been Mrs. Manderville's venture, I assumed Godbert was behind it, lol.

Based on the giant golden statues of Godbert, I'm thinking it was built by Godbert... Either that or Mrs. Manderville really loves her husband...

Still hoping Rowena turns out to be Mrs. Manderville, but doubting it somewhat now...

I agree with the sentiment that the airship approach implies that it's been in progress for quite a while.

I know more than a few games that've forgotten that maintaining the fact that it's a Skinner Box can't overshadow maintaining the fact that it's a game. If SE ever decides to implement underwater content, which has been considered on and off if I remember correctly, I will not rest until Godbert builds a blitzball sphere. PVP! PVP! PVP!

I wonder if they will impliment a path to it? There seems to be a few areas in the desert that look like the could be made into zone lines.
