Thanks babycakes♥
And this is what happens when you try to sound smart without actually being smart :/Except for the fact that the syntax is absolutely horrible. It's filled with redundancies. Take, for instance, the most infamous: "must needs." You do not need two words that are synonyms right next to each other. It's redundant and not even sixteenth century had that redundancy.
Also the actions of the characters not matching with what the voice actors yell. Merlwyb in English is notorious for this. She yells damn you a lot, but her character stands there looking emotionless. Raubhan does this too. The only one who matches their dialogue is Kanna, but she puts me to sleep.
I cringe at all voice-acting parts. I'd rather it be removed. I'll just replace it in my head with good English voice actors that Funimation uses a lot.
Like Colleen Clinkenbeard for Minfilia instead of whoever does her now.
And Johnny Yong Bosch for Alphinaud.

I mostly agree with the critiques. But, I don't speak any other language and considering the horrible English translations in recent years from game developers who's native language is not English, Square Enix didn't do a horrible job in my opinion. It doesn't break my immersion, but it doesn't impress me like a good movie. That should be expected though.
I bet the game is a lot better in Japanese in this regard.
Was that really necessary? Cuz ya know what happens when you are aggressive when trying to look like you're not being aggressive? I'll take second or third tier intelligence over passive-aggressive any day of the week.

To be fair; she was responding to an agressive smartass whose argument could be torn apart after a quick Google search.
I like the localization. Do you know how many other games have made me use a dictionary? One. And that was back in 1995. I like learning new words!
You had to use a dictionary for this? Wait, no -- that's off topic. I wholeheartedly agree with the OP, except that I can't really decide whether the script is a problem or not. It might actually be fine. I think the voice acting is horrendous though. My partner, who doesn't play this game, is occasionally in the room with me when I encounter a voiced cut scene and I'm always embarrassed because of how terrifically horrible the English voice acting is in this game (could be the same for any or all languages -- I don't know). Everything sounds stilted and lines are usually delivered as though there is no context. I sometimes wonder if the actors have any idea what the character they're voicing is doing, where they are...who they are. It's just very, very bad usually.
Someone mentioned FFXII. Whoever casted that needs to be contacted to fix this atrocity. FFXII had some terrific voice acting, even when the dialog was crap. I loved the voice work in that game even with a completely useless main character.
just play with japanese audio. No more bad voicing. ever. Also the actions of the characters not matching with what the voice actors yell. Merlwyb in English is notorious for this. She yells damn you a lot, but her character stands there looking emotionless. Raubhan does this too. The only one who matches their dialogue is Kanna, but she puts me to sleep.

@Jom: Sorry; you are right.I was not correct about calling it Old English. My FC was talking about Old vs Mid vs Modern English coincidentally a few minutes ago. Here's a sample of actual Old English from Beowulf:
Hwæt! Wé Gárdena in géardagum (Listen! We of the Spear-Danes in the days of yore,)
þéodcyninga þrym gefrúnon· (of those clan-kings- heard of their glory.)
hú ðá æþelingas ellen fremedon. (how those nobles performed courageous deeds.)
@GalaxyGirl: I do like *some* of the dialog.
@BlaiseArath: Yeah, I think Minfillia bothers me the most (but not to look at)
@Anonymoose: Yeah, the 2.5 trailer was the final straw for me that prompted my rant. :P
@Nutz: Yes. I LOVE FF12's localization. My favorite of them all.I actually loved it so much that I emailed the localization team leads and told them so. They responded and said thanks. The voice acting in FF12 was just amazing.
To each their own then. I am surprised that so many people like such decorative dialog.
