Glad I wasn't the first person to want this sort of thing. Maybe I'm spoiled rotten from other popular modern games like DotA flashing your taskbar and doing a global sound when you don't even have focus on the game, but just sitting and watching the game window when I could be doing something else is maddening.

    If only PCs had picture-in-picture.

For now, what you can do is:

    - Go to the sound settings (Ctrl+K) and mute all sound except the notification sound (the game will be silent unless a Duty Finder window pops up).
    - Alt+Tab and enjoy not playing FFXIV.
    - Once you hear the Duty Finder sound, just click on the "Cancel" button to reset the settings as they were.

Blinking taskbar would be convenient though.

This is what I do as well. Turn master volume and notification sound up to 100, mute everything else and turn on "Play sounds when window is not active". Then I just do whatever until the queue pops. It is a valid concern though, since all of those missed queues are not spiteful.

You don't even have to click the "Cancel" button when your queue pops, your settings will return to normal once your start loading into the instance. It's convenient because: 1. You have to click one less time 2. If someone backs out of the dungeon causing you to wait even longer, your temporary sound settings are still there and you don't have to navigate though menus again.

RIFT does this and it's a very nice feature. I'd love to have it implemented in this one.

Would be very nice to see, especially since I tab out when waiting for long queues (mostly as a DPS) I would love to see more notification instead of checking in every 40 seconds to see if it popped.

Definitely something I and many others would appreciate.

Why not just turn on the sound while tabbing out?

A good friend, who is hearing impaired, doesn't really have much benefit from -any- sound cues. The flashing would be a big help. Already we looked into anything that could help, but the one thing that was helpful has been eliminated by Square Enix.
So I hope they read this. I hope they know they're actually making it impossible for deaf and otherwise hard of hearing people to for instance quickly read up on tactics before the (long line of the) dungeon or raid pops.
    Really, a pity.

PS: Sorry for necroing this, but it's still relevant.
