I disagree; I don’t think higher grade dark matter should be able to repair lower grade equipment. As a weaver, before update 1.18, I couldn’t repair a cotton shirt with canvas or velveteen fent…

Also, I wouldn’t complain about having 5 of your inventory space taken up with repair materials. Many crafters had to carry around several different grades of fents, spetches, and other repair materials just so they can repair all their gear. I for one love only having to have 5 of my inventory spaces taken up with dark matter instead of 10-20 spaces taken up with repair materials.

It would make sense to be able to use a higher grade dark matter to repair a lower rank item but would you really want to waste it when you could use a cheaper dark matter to do the job?

Personally I’d rather save the gil and just use lower grade dark matter than higher, that gil spent on grade 5 could really add up fast otherwise…

Metaphor time! The way I see it, if you have AA battery (grade 2 dark matter) you can’t power a motor (equipment that’s requires grade 5 for repairs) that requires a lot more juice, such as a car battery (obviously)… but if you try to use a car battery to power a remote control car, you’ll end up giving it too much power and burn out the little motor…

lol maybe grade 5 dark matter just has too much ‘juice’ to fix a cotton gear, and will just end up damaging it more in the end and there for you can’t use it to repair lower grade equipment… Not that it matters either way to me though, cause I’m just glad I only have to have 5 inventory slots taken up with repair materials instead of around 18+ inventory slots… ><

That's kinda true. I guess people working ways around repair system to make it easier and easier 'cause most can't be bothered repairing, me included. It feels like, may as well remove it all together.
I used to be against SP loss system, but after my bad experience with repairs, i would actually rather have SP loss instead now, i feel that would be both more convenient and it deter me more from dying, but.. that's kinda for another topic.

    Heya!

That's a good suggestion, and I support it!
Though... if I can add something other...
We always have used other materials to repair stuff, and now this Dark Matter comes out of nowhere. Can we at least have some NPC who tells us the lore around the Dark Matter? Like this is "We haz it lolz" when it could be "Once upon a time, [...]"
Give a meaning to Dark Matter in order to make it have sense!

    See ya!

I'm glad that some people agree with this idea. I was starting to wonder if a lot of the people on this forum just disagree for the sake of disagreeing.

Well this is wrong. why would i use the more expensive matter when i do not have to? if im low lvl ill use the cheaper one if im am high level i will use the one i have to use. However if i only have level 5 and im not near a store it would be cool to use the matter i have already on me.

This is a cool idea of course.

Too lazy to see if this was suggested yet, but you could simply just have a single grade of dark matter, and just increase the amount ncessary for higher rank repairs.

    Example: Rank 1 item = 1 Dark Matter; R10 = 2 Dark Matter etc.

    One of these would happen..

    Option 1.
The economy would shift, then, the level 5 would be cheap.
    Option 2.
Also at higher levels, everyone would just carry the level 5 dark matters because their equipment is lvl 50. Carrying low level matter at this point is good only for repairing other players low level gear. If everyone is carrying "just" high level matters, players would not repair other players gear because its too expensive.

How is this any different than the current system??

The players looking for repairs could just as easily carry the dark matter for those repairs.
