In addition to Au Ra naming conventions, can we also get naming conventions for Goblins, Vanu Vanu, Gnath, and the Dravanians? (seeing as they're all going to be relevant in Heavensward)

And the Garleans while we are at it. I want a nice list of what van, sas, yae, zos, deus, nan, and tol mean. And I want an answer that doesn't require a history degree (like Tribunus Angusticalvius)
Deus is not a Garlean title or prefix. It is latin for God and it only applied to corrupted Nael for obvious reasons. You will not find it in a Garlean list.

It seems that it indicate your position in the hierarchy, Z being the last letter, so Zos is the highest rank used only for the emperor, also yes, deus isn't a garlean rank.
so Zos ( Emperor )> Yae ( Prince ? )> van (General) > tol > sas.
now THIS idea is actually pretty nice. If we follow this logic the garlean title for crown prince would be something with X. Still we still don't know what Nero's position actually is/was. He seemed to be an odd mix of spymaster and head technician. Nan is most likely minister.
X comes before Y.. so Yae is already there. as for Nero.. we know his Rank. his is Tol. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Nero_tol_Scaevanow THIS idea is actually pretty nice. Okay then. that's what I'll do. I'll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgement. All these people who's ancestors devoted themselves to you, sacrificed themselves to you. Can you hear them singing?

It's on the list of known upcoming posts, but hasn't made it through the tubes yet.
Based on the context clues, my bets for the ones we've seen so far are:
Some terms do require a little Wikipedia browsing to get the full idea, but hey, it's complex worldbuilding. Thems the breaks.
- zos Emperor
- yae High Legatus (or Imperial family standing coincidentally held by Varis that is higher than High Legatus)
- van Legatus
- tol Tribunus Laticlavius
- sas Tribuni Angusticlavii (inc. Praefectus Castrorum, if applicable)
- rem Pilus Prior
- nan Imperial Minister (?)
Oh, holy crap, it is in reverse alphabetical order...

Goblins seem to follow the FFXI gender conventions: if it ends in -ix, it's a boy; if it ends in -ox, it's a girl. also seems the last name is more of the profession/title/notable traits amongst gobs.
