Well, that's fine and dandy (I skipped my cutscenes the first time I did castrum/prae too) but...

FC member asks if anyone wants to join him for a Praetorium run - the fact that the slew of replies he gets is "first time? I go" / "I'm up for bonus tomes" is one thing. I mean, not the nicest, but at least the will to help is there, regardless of motivation.

By the time we go in (meaning before even a ready check), we discuss and agree to not skipping mobs - 4 overgeared BLMs and one overgeared DRG, there's no point -, and not skipping cutscenes so as the new guy can actually enjoy them as intended.
It's pretty rude for an FC member to go against agreed run conditions.

You should probably learn to read the first post instead of just the first couple words, Cut your vitriol and maybe follow your own advice.

Are the cutscenes able to be skipped and easily viewed in the inn? Yes. Were they intended to be skipped for the first time through? No, I'd say not, or else they wouldn't even be there in the first place. Yes, they were made skippable, but I believe this is for when you get those full parties with everyone having done them before. For times when a new player is in for these, they should be allowed to watch even if it 'inconveniences' another 7 -- the reason, YOU ARE GETTING REWARDED for that extra time with the tomes the new player gives. Geez..

More than the Tome reward, but it's just the decent thing to do.

It's sad this is why I am glad to be a tank. I was in a Praetorium run and I made sure to wait for the people watching cutscenes. On dragoon kept bitching they should skip them. I promptly ignored him the fact that he kept bitching was delicious.

Oh, I completely agree - I was saying more for those that want to rush and think their time is more important, that they should remember they're being rewarded by having that new person in there, though it would be nice if more people just had a lil more courtesy for the new players.

I actually understand this mentality, unfortunately. There's literally no reason to do praetorium except as either a roulette (which can't be grouped) or for the tome bonus.
It's ridiculously long and there's no loot (though if they don't add triple triad cards i'll eat my hat) and for the above reasons there's absolutely no reason to do it. Helping with praetorium for a first timer is like helping a friend move. Helping for someone who doesn't even need it is like helping an OCD friend rearrange his furniture. Outside. In the rain. At 3 AM.

Agreed, that was an ass thing to do of your tank FC mate. Especially after agreement not to SR/cutscene skip it.

I've been in pugged roulette for main story quests where now and then you get good people/group that do wait for those one or two people - or a few people that will stubbornly put their foot down and make all wait. Which I respect. Lucky few newbies that get that treatment, though. EVen worse, half of them get lost, or don't use the card reader before the magitek pewpewpew times part because they just don't know.

I had to skip my first-time cutscenes also, after my first mid-way cutscene, after realizing I've been left in the dust... just after that one. I've stopped caring, since - but it's not a fate I'd like others to experience or fall into skip-complacency with like I have (such as in the coils, Labrynth/ST...).

I have a new FC mate that's nearing level 50, and we're hoping to set up a party finder specifically for it's safety net (cutscene watching, first timers, etc), along with attempting to fill the party list with FC mates (we're not very many, and not all are on at once, so...) so that they don't have to deal with exactly those problems when they're nervous doing new content with pugs to begin with. Left in the dust, unable to enjoy the game as intended, getting jumped all over by speedrunners, etc...

And hell. Maybe I'll finally get to watch the cutscenes in complete context this time. It's only been a year.

I usualy wait for everyone in Praetorium/Castrum. New people get lost easily. If people want to watch their cutscenes, there's nothing I can do about it so I wait as well. I don't understand people yelling at first timers. It's not their fault if everyone in their group have run prae/castrum hundreds of times already. They know nothing about end game roulettes and codes. They are probably nervous, a bit lost, and I can only imagine how they feel if bad apples start insulting them because they want to appreciate the epic end of the story. I skipped the whole CS thing because I was scared of other players reaction, but I can still remember the first time I've fought the Ultima Weapon. That was amazing. I don't want to ruin it for everyone just because I've run these places countless times now.
