I would like to see the market wards kick retainers out when they sell out all their items, and auto-kick retainers who are in there for a period of maybe 48-36 hours.. So people who are over-pricing things in there to just hold their place get kicked often to make room for others actually selling.

I would also like to see people be less stubborn and spread out to the other cities more. That's the players' problem, not SE's... but SE could help with that by linking access to the wards.

I would say extend stalls to 3-day leases, and kick retainers on the floor out automatically after 24-hours unless the player dismisses and resummons them within that time frame. That would go a long, long way towards fixing the problem.

A player will go where it is most convenient for them. It is the developer's job to make each town as equally convenient as possible. The game revolves around items and groups. Players stay in Ul'dah because that is where people shout for groups, and sell the most goods. Nothing will get players out of Ul'dah unless the wards are connected (which is probably close to impossible without getting rid of retainers), and there is some kind of global chat between towns. The best you can do is move focus to another town, which doesn't solve anything. Making guildmarks only available in certain towns is merely an excursion. They only take about an hour to finish, to which you have to wait longer than a day to obtain more. Why would you still stay in that town once you've finished them?

Yes I do have a My Little Pony sig because I'm not a complete loser who lives in his own little world, proclaiming something is stupid because I say so.

Bah, play it like you want. At the end you'll see that nothing changes.

It's no longer convenient when it's full, now is it? It is not SE's fault the players won't spread out. There are wards that are empty and people refuse to use them. This is a player and community issue, not a dev one. Nothing makes Ul'dah anymore convenient than Limsa or Grid. It's arbitrary to say one's better than another.

Whether or not you "can" is not the point... The point is.. not everyone does. Different people play at different paces.

Like I said, I'm back in game for 2 weeks now and I'm only just Phys. level 14. Not because I "couldn't get to 20 faster", but because I'm simply not compelled to. There's a mix of things I enjoy doing that don't involve "leveling to 20 in a few hours".

Hell, I just spent the last couple hours in-game standing around in Ul'dah chatting with my LS. It was a lot of fun. Was checking out people's armor, etc.

And anyway... I really don't understand the down-side of someone wanting to sell low-level gear that's affordable for newer players. You, however, seem to have something against it... and I'm not sure why.

I have my NPC set up in Grid's MW selling stuff for pretty low prices. There's a pretty good amount of people in and out of that city now, so I'm sure it'll move.

Ul'dah was selected, I think, because of its central location to everything. It's smack-dead in the middle of the two other cities, and you have Mor Dhona straight to the N.

Beyond that, it's circular, self-perpetuating behavior... The reason more people hang out in Ul'dah, is because more people hang out in Ul'dah...

When Ishgard is finally opened, assuming it's the "Jeuno" many assume it to be... I wouldn't be surprised to find that the mass of people head there instead and Ul'dah becomes just like the other two cities.

It is kind of funny to see someone in Limsa upset that they can't find anything in the wards because they are empty and then see another player in Ul'dah later that evening upset because the wards are over crowded, making it impossible for them to place their retainer in the correct ward.

There really is no reason to pack into Ul'dah like sardines in a tin can, especially now with the changes to obtaining guildmarks, how guildleves award sp, and the introduction of companies. People are actually using Limsa and Gridania again. If the community at large put their retainers somewhere other than Ul'dah, their things would sell. I do it just about every day.

I would argue that, while the market wards are far from perfect, we the players are exacerbating the problem by being stubborn.
Every time I sell things in Gridania they sell very fast since I have little or no competition. :3 It's great. It's too bad so few people have realized this.

People should get incentives or something for selling things in that city related to the guilds that lay within..
What though could be offered, I haven't the slightest idea, but it would hopefully help with the spreading out of things.

It would be interesting in my opinion to be able to go to Limsa knowing that I would find the best prices on heavy armor and weapons, go to Gridania for my leather armor, and go to Ul'dah for my cloth and jewelry related stuff and so on.

I think the biggest obstacles for spreading out though is that we don't have a very good mode of transport.. We are limited to the amount that we can travel not so much in time we have, but in how much anima we have left.
We can't go rent a chocobo and go to a neighboring city in 10-15 minutes, instead we have to spend anima that takes hours to get back... This strongly discourages massive amounts of travel in my opinion, and so keeps us generally in the same areas ;v

I'm sure this has all been said before a billion times, but it feels relevant
