This is precisely the point of restrictions. Yoshida has already said in response that there is a certain image they would like to keep. Having tanks in healer gear or vice versa negates that. There's really nothing to debate, the system is working as intended.
You should never close the book on a debate as there is always more than one facade to a subject.
While I do agree with you that a tank shouldn't wear healer gear and vice versa, I still believe classes should be allowed to wear a bit more than what they were intended to wear. For exemple... I want my healer to look like Louisoix but that would be impossible since he wears heavy metal boots that can only be wore by melee dps/tanks. Such a minor item wouldn't destroy the immersion since it's being worn by NPCs but is still restricted for the ''intended vision''. Another example of my distress would be the pvp gear. I love the black mage suit which is obviously a caster robe but a summoner may not wear it because it is restricted by job and not discipline. Such gear thus remains inaccessible despite its intended job being in the discipline of magic. One last exemple would be the monk gear announced of 2.5. Most monk gear can be worn by ninjas already in the game and clearly doesn't break the immersion but this next set is probably restricted to monk which is a shame since I wanted pieces of that set for what l had envisioned for my own character.
My request is not to destroy the immersion by allowing everyone to wear everything. That is not what I requested. What I wish for is to remove job restricted gear while keeping a logical approach to what characters can and can't wear by definition of their role.

Except that you can already do it, "killing the immersion" isn't a challenge at all if people really want to, snowman outfit, moogle outfit, any ig event outfits
Do you want a paladin tanking in a robe? no problems, lv1 vanity stuffs, wedding robe, halloween robe and I'm probably missing a lot more.
The "This would kill game immersion" and "This would make jobs looking less FFish" are just pathetic excuses and false arguments since you can already do it now.
Back in the 1.0 times, you could had a lot of awesome and very unique looking outfits for your character since you could wear anything, this is why some 1.0 NPC like Papalymo can wear heavy gauntlet as a caster.
Just bring it back SE, it was fun and it is already in the game lore ^.^.
well honestly that seem like an ok restriction for both QoL and ingame practicality, mages shouldnt be clunkin around it big-ass armor, nor should tanks be wearing rags, unless entirely for comedic purposes that are well thought out, but as per the OP specific example, yeah, if Im already wearing leather or light clothes thos whether I at least look like im wearing parachute pants as a ninja or whatever is no bother to me.
I take what I like and I like what I take!

I agree, the amount of clothes a mage can wear is dangerously low.See? I wouldn't mind that and those are actually pretty good ideas.
Changing the current system to DoW and DoM which will allow more freedom but still restrict the different discipline like many other games is what I had in mind at first. Either that or create craftable/dyable versions of the same armors... But considering the amount of work that would require, I doubt it'll ever happen.
Good idea too! Glamour should be a reward for something. Either through currency/craftable or through certain questings/leveling up.
At least restrictions would be lifted somehow.

I just want to add my word on this subject that I totally agree and desire a less restrictive glamour system across all classes/jobs.
The obvious:
AF gear is locked to the class/job;
Race gear is locked to the Race;
Gender gear is locked to the gender;
but etc./misc. is unlocked and free for glamour across the entire armorie board. Like many of the gear sets you can obtain through the HM dungeon runs. Those pieces are designed strictly for glamour.
I really wish SE would put this on the cash shop ...
Had a ton of life stuff happening around Halloween and if I had known about this I'm sure I would had signed up for a month :[
Would go perfectly with my Mogblade and I'm sure w/e the Dark Knight's weapon will look like. :'[
Tanks can ALREADY be in healer gear. It's just healers/mages that are don't get access to the heavy armor. The unbalanced system is clearly beyond his and your comprehension.
Because others disagree, its notorpathetic excusesReal facts from the person that decides these things.false arguments
Taken from Live letter XVIII
.Q22: Are there any plans to remove restrictions on the glamour system (unable to glamour gear that the job/class cannot equip)?
A22: Unfortunately, there’s a certain image that we would like to sustain for FINAL FANTASY XIV. We feel that it would confuse the new players if they see casters in heavy armor and tanks in mage gear.
However, if there’s any specific gear you would like to glamour, we will consider those requests individually so please request them through our official forums.
The search function is there for a reason. There are many existing threads on this topic. It's getting quite annoying.
