I can see this suggest you've made could be a good attraction indeed, it sounds fun and would invite more people over to the DoL side. So I thought up a quick response that took me around 30mins to do, something more concrete is always good ... DoL Gathering is strong but is steadily crumbling apart, if something isn't done soon to enforce it it will fall soon enough. Here's my suggestion about this:
[*There are two types I can see; be it separate or both together]
2) New Locations Achievements; approach a trees, rocks, waters.
(Here's an Example)
Dol; Botanist 1 of 3; Rank1 - At R1 Botanist, Grade 1 Trees
*It's right there that the adventure should begin* . . . Call It "Seen a Mysterious Figure Atop an Tree": you see something at your very first gathering adventurer, on the first day as a Botanist. You wonder what that was as you make your way back to Gridania"
(Same with the other two DoL)
DoL; Miner 2 of 3; Rank1 - At R1 Miner, Grade 1 Mines, "Seen a Mysterious Figure In a Underground Hole": It's your very first day as a Fisher and you encounter something while gathering. You wonder what that was as you make you way back to Ul'dah."
DoL; Fisher 3 of 3; Rank1 - At R1 Fisher, Grade 1 Waters,"Seen a Mysterious Figure Swimming in the Water" it's your very first day as a Fisher and you encounter something while gathering. You wonder what that as you make your way back to Limsa Lominsa"
and so on
at R5 "You here a Voice"
at R10 "Talk to it using Echo"
at R15 "Call Me Friend"
at R20 "Follow me my Friend"
........and it continues

my only probably is I don't like the term "Familiars" as they're seen as a lesser form of companions, I personally like "Gathering Companion" more as it sounds like "Path Companion".
Interesting concept, with even more content. I'll see about paraphrasing this onto the main post and citing.
1) A quest become available each few ranks 1-50.
Heheh ah familiar is just to scratch out the concept. Im not sure what they should actually be called.
Okay here my second thought towards this:
For Botanist how about growing yourself an companion?, as gardening & cultivation have been announced.
For Miner how about going underground to find your companion?, it's still unknown if there a underground tunnels.
For Fisher how about fishing yourself companion by boat? . . . it's still unknown if boats are coming
This could be another way to go about getting a companion.
"It's The Journey that is important, The Destination is Not that important."

Although that sounds really interesting I thought if should be kept somewhat the same between each.
Botany-You search an area-cutscene triggers, your character pulls up a mysterious root that a guild member wanted him to look for. Upon pulling it out a Mandragora shrieks at your character-end cutscene. and somehow befriend them.
Mining-You search an area, as a guild member told you to look for a certain precious gem. Upon mining you see a Spriggan stuck in the wall, you pull him out and he is hyper and thankful.
Fisher-Your guild yet again tells you to find a "Magical fish" that was probably just a story hes bluffing about. Upon fishing you got something on your hook, but unexpectedly a Apkallu grabbed your fish at the same time so he gets pulled out of the water along with your catch.
I think it's a good idea that DoL may have some help while gathering. Not really excited with the idea of a Pet but... I can think any other suggestions.
Good one!
I'm The First and The Last...
I'm Alpha and Omega...
I'm the Beginning...and The End..
One of the best ideas I've seen by far in this forum.
For the pets, they should be like tracking companions that will lead you to gathering spots so gathering would be a lot easier.
Maybe you can even lvl them so they can sniff out more valuable materials. Also, pokemon evolution style would be awesomeI wanna see a mandragora turn into a big tree or something.
This would definitely make a pet system even more fun than those other mmo's where u just get a pet that follows you around and that's itIt would actually give owning a pet to have a purpose in this game.
Devs really need to see this thread![]()
It's just a stone's throw away.
As I recall, the only action you can take in fending yourself off from foes is the use of "Throw Stone". Gee, that's really going to save your life. (/sarcasm) So in light of this, I propose a cute pet familiar to assist you in your gathering endeavors.
-----------------
Botanist
Mandragora - This little guy will pummel and scream at foes. His special will put them to sleep. Upon gathering, he will alert you of hidden gathering locations as well as get excited when there is a rare plant nearby.
How to obtain:
You are sent out on an herb gathering quest when you spot a strange root...
Miner
Spriggan - Spriggan will bite and knock into foe to force them into submission. His special is quick chant, which will cast the corresponding magic to the precious gem he is holding. He will get excited when he senses rare minerals nearby.
How to obtain:
You are sent out on a mining quest when you mine up more than you can handle...
Fisher
Apkallu - Apkallu pecks and growls at foes. His special move is (i dont know make a suggestion) Apkallu will occasionally dive into the water and retrieve a fish that got away. He gets excited when there are rarer fish in the water.
How to obtain:
You are sent out on a fishing quest when something unexpected comes up with your catch...
Shepherd
Ram - Not enough info on Shepherd for me to give an idea...
Afterthoughts
->Toggle battle mode off when a DoW or DoM joins your party.
->Allow for feature customization.
->Become a requisite for Beast Master.
->DoL additional locations to search by rank quest discovery. (Example provided by Dras6fin)

Excellent ideas! I never actually thought of pets being used to protect the gatherers from harm or to aid them in their daily activities. The creatures you chose for each profession works perfectly also! It sure as hell beats stone throw! XD
Hope SE reads and considers this when they get to the "pets" stage of development for classes. I think if anyone in the game needs a pet to aid them, its the gatherers. Besides, soloing out there gets kinda lonely without a faithful companion! >.<
This all reminds me a little of Mr.Diggs from The Last Remnant, he was an awesome little gathering companion, levelling up the more you gathered from nodes, gaining different abilities to increase the rarity/quantity of items you recieved from nodes. Perhaps something similar can be done with the idea of these familiars.

I think it this is an awesome idea! Genius, in fact.
This is a very neat idea by the OP. I would love to see something like this in game - DoL/DoH classes definitely need some love, and this would be a fantastic start.
