I noticed most ppl talk in Team speak, Vent, or Mumble.

Even with 30+ ppl online in my guild maby 2-3 ppl type, other 18 or so not afk are in ts talking.

FFXIV is a game based on button mashing. IF you are playing your job in a complex fight (Dungeon, coil, towers, primal) you cannot talk without Voice chat. I highly recommend using a voice chat program because of this. Game sorta requires it if you want to be able to chat and play at the same time.

But yes Chat channels in game are extremely quite in FFXIV.

My FC is very involved and talkative. We are a small FC, which was a major reason for me joining. I would say around 90% of us made gifts for all the members for Starlight, just because we could. It was a lot of fun! My only suggestion for you is if you don't like your current FC research another one and join it. Rinse and repeat until you find one that you really enjoy. When you do, the game becomes so much more fun.

Mine usually is chatting pretty regularly at all times of the day in FC (we have members from Austrailia, England, America and Canada at the very least), and for those with mics, there are some who use TS and Skype.

Mine is just my wife and I, so we're talking in person. We belong to a couple of chatty linkshells though and use our TS to talk with friends in other FCs. I'm hoping SE gets the FC alliance feature in 2.5 and that it isn't too limited.

Then why not make your own FC content? That's what my FC does. We're working on setting up a PvP tournament (not entirely sure on the logistics of it, but some of my fellow officers have it figured out) and we've done other things in the past like contests, Hide and Seek games, that sort of thing. You get out of it what you put into it. If you want a fun, social FC, make it a fun, social FC!

That really only works if a moderate portion of your FC members join in, which generally involves incentive or your FC members are already social to begin with.

This speaks a lot of truth. My FC is rather small, and the average number of people online is maybe 4, but I really don't say much unless it's just me and specific few people that I've known for years. Even then, I don't always say stuff LOL. Last time I tried to talk a lot when there were some folks outside of those few I already knew, I ended up having another member tell us about some rather depressing RL stuff pertaining to finances and drama. I get that people have stuff to get off their chest but... it got a little uncomfortable LOL.

Ours is about 30 odd players but we have a core group of 8-10 of us that are always chatting and it's rubbing off on the other members a bit now. Personally I've always loved how social this game can get.

FC's tend to be extremely busy doing their own stuff, and most of the time they also have their own little clique going on. It's a bit like high school. If you aren't in their clique or just new, they tend to respond a lot less to them.

In my FC it just depends who is online. Some of us are pretty chatty so when we're on there are usually discussions going on. If there are only a few people, it's quieter. Sometimes we're on Mumble, too, so we're talking, just not in the chat box.
