I also have the PC version and I CANNOT get it to work the same as the PS4 no matter what files I change and no matter what driver I use.Unfortunately, it is a Sony issue, not a Square Enix issue. They are certainly willing to work with platforms. They've said, for example, that they'd gladly have an Xbox One version; if Microsoft would lift their very silly ban on cross-platform games and the demand that developers use Microsofts servers. If FFXIV could use it's own datacentres and connect alongside PC gamers (like the PS4 version); then they'd go for it!
I'm not sure what the justification of the PSN link is. But it is what it is! Thankfully, I've got the PC version as well. And I play it with my DualShock 4 controller! (When my wife and I play together, one of us plays in the living room on my MacBook Pro; using Steam In-Home Streaming from my gaming PC. And the other on the PS4. We each have a PS4 and a PC version of the game, so we can play whenever on whichever machine.)
To move the left stick it has to be completely pushed till you can't push it no more; I can't even walk (same with the right stick and the camera), my triggers have to be pressed completely which I cannot do because my right trigger is worn out (so I can't even use the right trigger), and those problems alone prevent me from being able to play effectively...
Why can't Sony collaborate with SE to have SE servers license check in the event that PSN goes down?
Yes please

Sounds like you're having a driver issue. Have you tried the DS4-Windows tools that are available? I don't have any of the problems you've mentioned and I use my DS4 on the PC the majority of the time that I play.I also have the PC version and I CANNOT get it to work the same as the PS4 no matter what files I change and no matter what driver I use.

SE could have its game bypass the PSN check, but it would cost SE extra money to do it most likely. Which means that it would then (as businesses are oft to do) charge its PS users more for the sub than the PC, which would then elicit a whole new kind of rage that will further fill the forums.

+1. My DS4 works on my PC (or on my Mac streaming from my PC using Steam In-Home Streaming) the same way it does on PS4. Same controls, etc. Gameplay is exactly the same. Only difference is I have to make gear and hotkey changes twice, once on both platforms. Really wish configuration was server-sided.
Windows doesn't do well with a Dualshock 4 without the aid of third party software, like DS4 Windows.

That's got all the steps to get your DS4 optimized for FFXIV on the PC. I'd also recommend using it wired; it seems to work a lot better that way. Using it wired also means you don't have to "un pair" it from the PS4. Just plug it in and it works fine; and then press the PS button and start using it wirelessly on the PS4. That's what I do, works great.
