New Race Announced! The Au Ra

I just hope there will be some difference in the two clans. Something like Hyur midlander and highlander.

The Sylvari in Guild Wars 2 were changed fairly drastically even after artwork, renders and videos had come out. It's very unlikely the Au Ra will recieve even minor changes now, but not impossible.

Less than 1/8 of legacy players who took the poll requested this type of race. It's actually 4th place in the poll, behind mammalian demi-beastmen, mixed heritage races (which have at least been confirmed possible in lore), and more clans for the existing races.

Heres the funny part. Assuming Yoshi and Team used the poll to influence what race we were getting for Heavensward, i'd like to point out the following:
-Reptilian Beastmen scored highly.
-Reptilian Demi-Beastmen scored equally well (the example was for horns remember)
-Races of mixed heritage scored very well.
-Somewhere, there is a Yoshi quote stating that he feels people only voted so highly for the Mammalian Demi-Beastmen because the example specifically mentioned Viera.

Taking these into consideration while viewing the new race which is ...
-Draconic (one of the examples in the poll)
-Has Horns (also one of the examples in the poll)
-Is of mixed heritage (The Main Story alludes that Saint Shiva mated with a Dravanian) Dravanian+Elezen

One has to ask whether those examples were used specifically because they WANTED a Dragon/Elf hybrid race and simply wanted to see how the community felt about such a race, and as you can see from the poll results, a large chunk of the community wanted to see a race like Au Ra. Yes, thats a broad statement. But we can see that the community wanted these things, and thats what we got. Albeit, all in one race, rather than a a race that featured only a specific polled type.
Keep in mind that Yugiri was shown to us in what .. 2.2? They've had the Au Ra planned for a very very long time.

I wouldn't really consider them hybrids though. It'd be like considering the Qu amphibian-human hybrids. The Au Ra have pretty clear human attributes, they also have some dragon ones.

Also, the Bangaa don't worship Adrammalech. That's purely an FFTA thing, I don't think any of the Scions of Darkness are worshiped in XII.

This is not another "FF world" were hybrids are accepted among "humans". In (current) Eorzea an hybrid race not enough human looking is considered as a best tribe and then enemies. you would be allowed in cities, wouldn't be able to join any guild nor start any quest....

Reptilian Beastmen and Reptilian Demi-beastmen are two different things. Reptilian beastmen would not be "hyur with horns and a few scales." To try to hold up Au Ra as an example of beastmen is fallacious. And for mixed heritage, I've already pointed out that the poll rather clearly implies that it would be a mix of already playable races; you'll note that none of the examples are along the lines of Lalafell-Kobold.

Beastmen are a common sight in Limsa Lominsa (except Kobolds and Sahagins), but are banned out of Ul'dah

I kinda like this race and will switch to them from miqote but in future I would like some more different races..

I agree with Strejda. :3 This race is great as presented, but I'm still holding out for a race with more effeminate males. A friend of mine made his old P&P male Mithra character as a female because the whole point of the character is that he's effeminate and runs off pretending to be a female Mithra in order to escape the expectations placed on a male Mithra. And while you can make Male Miqo'te in FFXIV, they aren't effeminate in build.

I don't know if they'll add another new Race, or if they'll add a third "clan" to existing races, but I do hope to eventually have an effeminate male character.
