No it isn't. We use counter-torque. We twist one half of our body one way and the other half the other way. That provides force to push off against to turn over in mid air. Also, it's not like we need balance in combat or anything amirite? In all honestly this would be a smart idea from a lore stand point.
There is the notion that a cats tail provides the extra balance and its also what they use to right themselves so that they (almost always lol) land on their feet. So even though it wouldn't seem to make sense to take that away on the battlefield you have to consider that these tails also run the risk of getting lopped off. So i would purpose what the saiynas did in DBZ lol. wrap it around the waist.

i just RE-educated myself on this matter, no tail needed for cat righting reflex >.< however the tail is a wonderful counterweight that would provide great benefits in battle. i would just be terrified of getting it chopped off since it is behind you and you wouldn't see i coming.
"Try not. Do or do not. There is no try."
If someone snuck up behind me I'd be more worried about them cutting off my head than my tail.i just RE-educated myself on this matter, no tail needed for cat righting reflex >.< however the tail is a wonderful counterweight that would provide great benefits in battle. i would just be terrified of getting it chopped off since it is behind you and you wouldn't see i coming.
