Yeah, I'm pretty sure full FCOB sales are actually more like 8-10 mill or so, if people are overgeared enough to do them yet. So you'd need to spend around $40-$60, not $20, if we're going by the average server price.

I'm not exactly sure what you think I'm nitpicking at. I'm merely laughing at the notion that someone thinks Coil clear sales are an imagined phenomenon and not a norm on just about every raid-oriented server.

Regardless of the price, gil buys you progression (and has for over a year since Titan HM sellers cropped up to cover their future housing), and now money buys gil. It won't buy you a world-first, but it can certainly place you in a bracket to be considered for a group going for it.

I don't think the context of the post I made or the post I was quoting has been made entirely clear since you seem to think I'm somehow defending exchanging real cash for gil by joking that you need 'even more' real cash for a FCOB purchase.

(It's the opposite.)

People have been selling runs for over a year, long before the cash shop existed. They will continue to sell runs after people stop selling bracelets.

The point isn't that you can buy runs now that bracelet selling is pandemic, the point is that bracelet selling literally lets you convert real cash into content clears, which is a form of directly paying real money for player power, or "pay to win" as it's commonly put.

There are people who are quite happy to spend just that kind of money. People whose ego is so invested in the game that they are happy to pay extortionate amounts to be 'the best' on their server, whether that means market dominance or BiS gear.

Allowing people the ability to obtain in game currency (albeit with an intermediary step) without having to do anything in game to achieve it is anathema to an MMO.

If success has a price then it has no value.
