FWIW, a number of even the subscription-based one have allowed this in one form or another. WoW has tradable pets, EVE has PLEX, WildStar sells C.R.E.D.D., and many other games have similar equivalents. I would say that the number of still-running subscription games that don't or haven't offered something like this is probably more note-worthy. For better or worse...
They should had just given you the option to obtain these items either through gil or real money, else they should had made them untradable.
Personally, I think there's a good side and a bad side to this. The good side is that it gives the option for people to obtain items even if they don't want to spend real money. The bad side is that this is pretty much legal RMT, except its SE who is getting the money. This unsurprising mean that SE is perfectly okay with this unless there are enough complaints.
Even if SE is just trying to milk the cash shop as much as they can, I much rather have SE getting the money than some random guy though. At least there's the possibility that SE might use the money to maintain and improve the game.
Well... after the materia crap in relict quest i thought they learned their lesson, but this time again?
Sorry, but if beeing RMT is the only way to get a relict, its working as intended...
Its nearly as expensive as to buy a large house!
(I am not talking about the finished items)
I'm not against them being tradeable, so the people that cannot afford real money to buy them and the sub fee pushes them to the limit, can have a way to get them anyway.
RMT then, is about money given to third parties and not to SE, but a good number of people fails to understand that.
Last but not least, the "pay to win" argument makes me laugh so hard that I get sick of that. It is so clear some of you don't even know what "pay to win" means, and using those words without even understand their means.
People won't stop... That's legal RMT as far as they see it, and they'll make profit out of it until devs just take the system down. What's sad is that even if the system evolves to allow one person to get the 2 rings and the trade is done during the ceremony, people would still sell ceremonies for those who want the chocobo and dresses. As you know, the promise wristlets were designed to be tradable so that one person would be able to purchase a pair of wristlets and gift one to their partner.
While the trading and selling of these items for gil is not against the terms of service, in the event this type of trend continues and topics continue to arise regarding whether or not this is considered real-money trading, we will have no choice but to change the design of this system. Therefore we would like players to stop selling and trading the bracelets for gil so that they can continue to be used for their intended purpose.
One of the way possible would be to make an official statement that this sort of RMT isn't allowed either, and drop the punishment on anyone who abuses the system.
I like that you find it so funny while not understanding it at all. 1: People were asking for this for free (or a token amount), not for gil or $, because this is the kind of content we pay our subs for. 2: Paying gil to an NPC is very different to paying a player. It doesn't distort the economy as much, gil becomes concentrated in the hands of a few players. Those players can then use that gil to corner markets, merc run FCoB or whatever. Whatever they choose to spend the gil on, or worse, if they hoard it, those players have an advantage in game they obtained by spending r/l money. What really irks me about this is the amount of threads that popped up when people found out these plans were going to be in the cash shop clamoring that they should be available in game FOR GIL. I see these same people in here complaining that people are selling them. It's so funny that my side hurts from laughing so much lolololololol
Make up your minds.
lolololololol
That's actually the definition of Secondary Market RMT. Buying in game items from SE is Primary Market RMT.
Both are RMT

The basic marriage IS free. Get that if you don't want to spend money.
SE is free to speculate on their intellectual property as much as they want - as long as people pay, they would be absolutely dumb not to exploit this.
These complaints are useless - vote with your wallet, as that's what really matters in the end. SE will decide accordingly.
Let's hope you don't come to regret this attitude later. I know a lot of people who have outright told me they have cancelled their sub, and a lot I have not seen since shortly after 2.4. People who had logged on regularly for years.SE is free to speculate on their intellectual property as much as they want - as long as people pay, they would be absolutely dumb not to exploit this.

I don't want this game to fail, even though I have cancelled my sub also, so I don't want to see SE alienate its playerbase by stripping down features into a free version and a paid version.
