Why alt characters?

I mean.. You can be everything in one, and even work for gear all its classes, and trust me that's enough of fun and time too.

(No, but seriously, I know of few people who likes this, and I was curious, so far only reply I obtained once was ''Because I can raid with two characters'' But that's just not valid for me...It's not like you can trade the stuff, isn't it?)

Let's say I main Bard on one character, but I like to heal on another.

I go into FCOB this week on my bard, my healer can't get any gear from FCOB because my character is locked out.

If I have an alt class, that's a healer, I can go into FCOB on my healer and get the gear for my healer, plus practice the mechanics more.

But with the lockouts being removed, isn't the need for alts now null and void?

Not all lockouts are removed. I have 3 alts, what I currently use them for:

-daily Ixali, I get 12 sealant every four days instead of just 3
-daily GC turn ins, buying the old philo mat items
-currently doing DoL, getting four grade 3 thanalan soil per game day
-extra retainers, sale spots, storage space, ventures

We dont know what the penalties will be, it might just be that those with Alts already used to going to final coil will just keep on using them simply to avoid a heavy penalty... we shall have to see.

Also alts are great for + to inventory :3 (9001 Materia anyone?)

In my case, I made a secret alt so that I could experience the game from a new persons point of view. I think that would have meant more if I was on an English speaking data center but eh!

There are a few reasons. One is multiple lockouts to play coil in. At one point in SCOB I was using my main pld, alt bard, alt blm to clear turns 6-9. It was nice playing in coil under different roles and seeing how different teams do things. Another reason is sometimes you get tired of looking at the same character all day yet you don't hate the design enough to use a fantasia. Then there is increases inventory space by having multiple alts with retainers. Also its faster getting tomestone gear for a particular class since you have multiple weekly caps. Its sad that this game doesn't have alt support just because they believe it will lessen the prevalence of RMT. Its really a poor practice on SE's part to make you pay extra to have alt characters but, not allowing you to trade with them by direct means. I get by just fine with the FC chest but I don't like relying on it.

Pretty much. I'm debating making a male alt just for fun, since my main is female.
