How about a "try on" feature or a showroom for the various housing items.

So now that I bought a house and starting to outfit it. It would be nice to see what the actual item will look like when you place it, without actually placing it. As it is very hard to tell by the picture in the crafting menu, or MB.

You can't see the item until you place it, and then at that point you can't sell it to try to get some money back if you don't like it. My recent one was the Morbol Chair, thought it would be cool to have. Had all the mats except the saliva which was rather expensive. Crafted the chair and was a bit disappointed in how it looked. Had I known, I wouldn't have even bothered with it, now I'm stuck with it.

If the option was there to "try on", or for each housing zone have a showroom. I mean who buys furniture without actually seeing it or "trying it on"?

Unless I missed something then disregard, and someone can point it out.

For the love of the Twelve, please at least make the dye preview work like it does for clothing!

It's not bound til you actually hit the confirm on placement tho. When you first go to place something in your house it does say "placing this item will cause it to become bound" or w/e. But it's not til after you move it around and rotate it to where you want then confirm it that it actually bonds. So when you do go to place something you see the preview of it there, how big it is, what it looks like, and so forth. Just cancel it instead of confirming placement so it goes back to your inventory and doesn't bond. But yes at the MB before buying it would be handy to have a 3D model of it appear to see what it looks like. That way you don't buy it, take it back, don't like it, then have to resell it.
On a plus note tho, furniture that is bonded can be placed in the company coffer. So if you do happen to have furniture you don't want/want to sell to someone in your FC you can place it in there for the trade purpose. So you aren't permastuck with it.

Being able to see what a furnishing looks like from the Auction Board listings would be fantastic.

And with something for scale, please.
    Seriously
I thought the Ifrit lamp was gonna be reasonably sized, about the size of a wall trophy.
    NOPE
Turns out it's actually bigger than the real ifrit's head.

Its just that if you don't like it now I have to go back and try and resell it. Some items are not hot sellers, if I want to move it fast I'll probably take a loss on it. Of course with the way the MB is, probably will take a loss. I do see lots of items cheaper than the mats to craft them, of course though I would just buy the item and not the material.

It would be nice to just check out some of the items before hand though. Like the high end stuff, to see how it looks and if its actually worth the effort to gather up the mats.

Very much agree we need something. It could be similar to the "Try On" window for gear (though with perhaps a somewhat larger image area), where we can see the item, zoom in/out on it, turn the item to see it from all sides, etc. Or it could be a showroom in the housing area where we can temporarily place any housing item in the game.

Advantages of the "Try On" window version:
    • Can be used from anywhere: Market Board, Crafting Log, Inventory (like when our retainer brings us back something and we want to see what it is before heading to our house), etc.
    • Is likely to be easier to develop than a showroom, which would need a new building, its own item selection interface, etc.

    Advantages of the Showroom version:
    • We could see the scale of items better.
    • Could show large features like wallcoverings more effectively.

Either one would sure beat trying to guess what things look like from just their name and icon.

Looking forward to having this implemented as well. They're definitely looking into getting it done, though it seems these things take some time, or aren't a high enough priority (I have no idea, haha). Camate's reply was originally posted this past summer. Hopefully we'll get some news on it soon!

They’d like to have multiple ways of previewing furnishing items and one idea is to have a “model room” area so you can check out various furnishings and interior décor. Once we have more information, like implementation timing, we’ll be sure to make an announcement!

Now I can avoid crafting the completely wrong item...not that that’s happened in the past…
It was supposed to be a chair not a fountain!
