That's not how it is or what he was saying at all. Bard scaling within it's own stats is clear, WD and Dex are the winners. Compared to other DPS classes though, Bard gets less out of mainstat

Getting less out of main stat than another class gets out of their main stat doesn't mean you should value your own main stat any less. You can be jealous of your neighbors, sure, but it's still the 2nd best stat for you (after WD).

The only time I'd be ok with losing dex would be if I were swapping to a piece with less accuracy (due to being overcap) and a large secondary stat gain in crit or det.

I'm not blindly dismissing dex if that is what you think. Kirimu coat and pants are the way to go. But as a bard who blindly bought full lolsksp/acc soldiery for it's dex gain alone...yeah I learned my lesson.

My current progression:
boots -> ring -> choker -> gloves -> i120 weapon.
I am hesitating for the next step. It will depends on my FcoB loots.
If I can get T11 carboncoat, I will pass the ring 130 and buy another 120 ring. I will also buy the belt if I do not obtain the T10 one. I did not buy the head yet because I have a pentameld i110 one atm.
For body and pant, I am using i110 craft ones, waiting for T12 and T13 drops... I will not buy the poetics ones, too crappy.
For the right side, I am waiting for T10 earrings and T11 bracelets. I dont like the poetics ones, so I will not buy them.

Conclusion: I have at maximum 3 items to buy (second ring, belt, head), then I can start to equip my alt (blm, war or mnk, hesitating)...

Are we the only job f****ed like this? I mean, need to have both body and pant from FcoB, and they loot on the last two turns. From the first coil we always had body and pant on the last two turns, but before at least one of the two was BiS token. Not anymore...

wrym coat isn't bis. penta meld the kirimu coat for bis. four crit 4's and one det 4 or det 3 if you're having money troubles. only 2 det so it won't hurt that much.

With kirimu, you can wear the poe gloves and belt which are better than dreadwrym (at least will be when upgraded)

The only outstanding dreadwrym pieces are: weapon, pants, legs, bracelet and earrings. That means one drop each Turn

Earrings: 10
Bracelet: 11
Pants: 12
Weapon: 13

Well, it depends what you call BiS...
You also have to remember two things:
- the vit bonus (13 in that case)
- the price. Probability for the 3rd materia to be melded: 29%, 16% for the 4th, 10% for the 5th. Considereing the price of the crit 4 materias (from 250k to 800k depending on the servers), it is a 10~20 M gils item. Not that simple...

Wyrm coat:
dex 50, det 34, ss 33, vit 59
Pentameld Kimiru coat:
dex 39, acc 41, crit 36, det 26, vit 46

Differences:
11 dex, 33 ss, 8 det, 13 vit -> 41 acc, 36 crit

I dont really remember the weight of each secondary stat, but I think it is something like 1 dex = 4 det = 5 crit = 10 ss (hope it is not stupid... I just remember det>crit>>ss)
If we apply these ratios, then we have
Wyrm: dex 16.3, vit 13
Penta Kimiru: dex 7.2, acc 41

Hard to determine exactly which one is the best... Assuming (once again) my ratios are correct, and you can turn this acc up into another stat on another item (lets say a gain of 41 crit somewhere), then we have
Wyrm: dex 16.3, vit 13
Penta Kimiru: dex 15.4

If we assume more "optimistic" ratios: 1 dex = 3 det = 4 crit = 10 ss ,
then we have at the end:
Wyrm: dex 17, vit 13
Penta Kimiru: dex 19.25

Conclusion: without a real serious study, I am not convinced at all...

thing with bards is our crit is much more heavily wanted than det and our scaling is bad. crit is tied to your dot's procing bloodletter. so that 11 dex you lose isn't worth the 36 crit and the accuracy you get that let's you use different items else where. but again it's like you said, it depends on your gil and your luck. when i made my coat i only failed the det meld(last meld). i was having a pretty luck day :b

i've also it's best to use a vit melded lolite ring for fcob until you get your gear but i couldn't tell you how true that is or now. maybe somebody else can shed some light on if that's the case

The weights are

dexterity: 1
critical hit rate: 0.315
determination: 0.318
skill speed: 0.146

But these are from patch 2.2 (110 gear). The weights most likely shifted since then.

The real reason why kirimu is bis isn't because it has better weights than dreadwrym. It's because of the accuracy lets you use better pieces. By using deadwrym, you're sacrificing additional crit and det for accuracy because your top lacks it.

I'll go with the Kirimu coat (once I gather a dozen materias, just in case...) and probably use the wyrm coat, if I got it, for glamour.
As Lunar said, the Kirimu coat gives you accuracy that allows you to change a few pieces. If you have the T9 weapon, yay more acc to work around \o/
If Vitality is needed, lolite ring (or probably the next i110 crafted accessories) will balance it all.

In my case it's easy enough though. Still struggling on T11, so I still have a few weeks of dreaming about T13... Might as well spend a few gils for this piece.
