Big thing people are leaving out here. FFXIVAPP and ACT are more than just parsers. Using it as just a parser is fine, just don't grief another player over his/her DPS, although there are ways to determine if a player is doing well or not without one.

Using these applications with their trigger commands is illegal. Can see it in DnT's T13 kill, as well as many other videos from back in the first coil when they are used to call out Twisters. At this point, the application is doing some of the work for you.

Ok, since you want to see yourself as being so smart, quick google for the definition:

Illegal:
"contrary to or forbidden by law, especially criminal law."

Firstly, it just specifies law.

Law:
"the system of rules which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties."

Country or community. This would fall under community so I am correct in using this word.

I play tank, so it doesn't affect me directly, but bringing parsers into PUG dungeons and using data from that to attack other players is absolute dickishness.

And this is why parsers will never really be "accepted" because it allows you to call out bads. Bads are gonna bad, it's when you throw concrete evidence at them that they're bad you become the bad guy. A no win situation. As most have already said, fight club rules apply.

Precisely. You can always say "sorry, we don't like your haircut. We have to replace you."

This reddit forum post is, I think, the most helpful clarification I've found with regards to what is and isn't a violation of the rules.

But the short version is what many others have alluded to. Despite the righteous attitude of many on these forums... If you don't ask and don't tell, you will generally be OK (Parsing, aural warnings, etc) as long as programs do not cross the boundary into actual cheats (like teleport/position hacking).

However, if you use parse results to harass other players or otherwise "don't play nice," Square Enix may come at you for things you don't expect-- such as things listed in the linked post.

It's incredibly obvious they don't mind parsing. If they minded they would stop the exportable battle damage combat log that has no other use except parsing (third party or manually). They just don't admit it because it would offend bads. They clearly don't support the harassment it can be used for, but it's a failure of logic to connect the two. Otherwise chat would be banned too becausr you could type insults. Imagine if pre-made Auto translate commands were the only allowed talking..... lol

To me this sounds like everything someone has to say is "(s)he had a different playstyle" when kicking for whatever reason.

You're allowed to kick somebody for whatever reason you want EXCEPT subpar DPS (which aside cheating, afking, being offline, would be the reason most of the time if you're running into a wall with DPS race encounters)

Fight Club rule applies.
