Ok, now I'm extremely mad. Just retried. Got the hang of it this time. Didn't realize you are supposed to follow them, not vice versa. Still annoying, because she stops every 20 feet, runs back 5 feet, then continues (repeat process the entire way).

So, I get ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE QUEST, AND THEN FOR NO REASON WHAT SO-EVER, I FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is this the quest where you have to go through black shroud to the sylph settlement? Because if so from my recolection you have a call function where you call your fellow and she/he runs towards you

You know ... the only reason this companion is there is to move the instance area around you. SE can create Instanced Areas with their engine but they cannot move them with a character and that is the only reason this stupid NPC got invented.
