My companion just caused me to fail a quest when I was SO close to finishing it. The dumb ass was running sooooo slow through the Black Shroud while I was carrying a sylph podling. The time was almost up so I was in a huge hurry. I ran too far ahead and now I have to start THE ENTIRE THING OVER!?!?!?!? Wtf is that?

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of the companions, to be honest. It's one of the things I've always been kinda "eh" about. I never really did anything with my Adventuring Fellow in XI either.

I mean, I get it... they're there to help you out on your missions if you're having a hard time, etc.

What would be interesting (and maybe they do this later, I don't know) but if your companions could help to serve some kind of important role, such as in solving puzzles.

For example, in Garlaige Citadel, you have those pressure plates to open the Banishing Gates. Would be cool if there was a system like that in XIV where you could have your companion stand on one plate, while you stand on another... things like that. Could really add another level of depth to some of the missions, I think.

Then I could really get into the idea of having a companion entirely. Otherwise, I dunno.. I just tend to prefer live people be along with me if I'm not doing something myself.

Even in Guildwars I never really used henchmen.

OTOH, I know others enjoy having them, so I'm not gonna be all "ZOMG remove zem now!"

I'd like to see them made at least a bit more interesting in the context of gameplay.

It warns you when you're about to leave the instance.

Sure, it's an irritating design.

But you failed because you didn't see the warning, or the area on the mini-map, and didn't want to wait for your companion.

Ok, now I'm extremely mad. Just retried. Got the hang of it this time. Didn't realize you are supposed to follow them, not vice versa. Still annoying, because she stops every 20 feet, runs back 5 feet, then continues (repeat process the entire way).

So, I get ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE QUEST, AND THEN FOR NO REASON WHAT SO-EVER, I FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I seriously almost punched a hole in my wall.

I realize the first time was partially my fault, but this time my companion was RIGHT EFFING NEXT TO ME WHEN I FAILED!!!!! HOW THE FUCK!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

I hate the missions where you follow them. It's soooo friggin slow and boring.
