That was intentional and done for the purpose of emphasis. Also, my topic is different in that it is specifically asking for more transparency regarding their stance on this. If they would at least tell us that they're planning to do these things, we could at least make our own decision as to whether we want to stick around. Instead, they're using a bait and switch method, which is just plain disrespectful.
I'm still enjoying my lifetime legacy discount. I dont mind throwing a couple more dollars to SE every now and then.
One thing I'd like to see them do is announce that the cash shop will be involved in a feature that they plan to release in the future. For example, if they had said that some wedding features will not be free when they announced their intent to implement weddings then less people would be upset now. I know that because I wouldn't be upset. I would have already gotten use to the idea and wouldn't have let myself get all hyped up for it.
Don't get me wrong, in this case, I'm sure they didn't actually decide to add a gold cash shop version till near release, which is partly why I felt the need to give some feedback.
TBH I don't mind if they charge extra through the cash shop for a few glamors, and treat the wedding ceremony thing as a "special service" with a free version where the basics are available to everyone, but the mount thing kind of really rubs me the wrong way... It's a mount that gives you the ability to carry a second person, which I realize isn't a big thing, but with the only other in-game item that offers that being barred behind some form of payment I was totally expecting this two-seater mount to be a free alternative to the recruit a friend chocobo. Like I said, not a big thing, maybe nothing like buying a mount that runs 20% faster than free ones, but I would go as far as to say it's starting to push us into the pay to win category. The next step might very well be to up the mount's speed or make the rider invincible while on it, and toss it up on the cash shop. I'm starting to really feel like these two seater mounts are meant to test the boundaries of how far SE can go with all these cash grabs, and if it's successful they'll only keep heading in that direction.
Other than that one detail, I'd be okay with the cash shop as it is right now, and I'd be completely okay with a premium version in-game wedding offering a few more dress/hairstyle options and whatnot because they don't effect actual gameplay for anyone (even despite the fact that a lot of people, myself included, value glamors as a huge part of their gameplay). Vanity only effects what my character looks like, not how I play the game.
Thing is, it might just be an off-the-wall opinion of mine, but I don't see being able to transport your friends around on your mount as purely vanity. I think if we're going to have two-seater mounts for sale (or for that matter, any item that offers any special feature or ability whatsoever that can't be obtained in game outside of cash shop transactions, then we'd better start demanding that we get a free alternative added into the game that is within all players' ability to access. If they're willing to offer a free alternative even if they make it the hardest, most annoying to obtain mount in the entire game, then I'd have no problem with it. But as long as they're completely locking a feature behind a paywall, then that feature is P2W, that's the way I feel about it.![]()

So im trying to figure out what all the rage and complaining is about. On the cash shop theres a few cheap minions, fantasia potions and a mount and some of the cheap Halloween items. extra retainers (no issue paying here! well worth it) No biggie.
ofc than i read about the eternal bonding plan costing something (Gold plan) which is pretty dumb and im a little surprised.
Guess what guys, Square Enix isnt just a bunch of gamers bringing fun to the community. They are a business out to make money as their number one priority and so is every other game developer whither we choose to believe it or not.
The few items on the cash shop is cheap and at a reasonable price for THOSE who choose to purchase it for extra items in game. You don't want it? Simply don't buy it, it is that simple.
People think, just because they pay a monthly subscription they are entitled to free this and that, their not. Everything costs Square Enix something one way or another.
The rub of it is, traditionally that's why people pay a subscription fee.
Apparantly some people seem to think the subscription fee is just a key that unlocks the door and everything ontop of that should cost extra.
