I did not care for the wedding itself, this was the only way to get a 2 person mount free. They were advertising the chocobo as something they were adding for everyone not just cash shop users, technically there was no cash shop at the time they announced it. Now there is no way to get a free 2-person mount so therefore I don't count it as extra fluff at all.

Because the mount would be different. If they had put slepnir there for example, instead of the 2 seater choco they probably would have had just as many doing the recruitment campaign.

Being a two seater is pretty much all that makes the recruit-a-friend mount unique. It's just a larger chocobo with a white tail otherwise.
If you diminish an incentive, you lose that incentive. So their options are to keep the 2 seaters locked behind varying forms of paywall to keep them unique, or completely change the incentive. Guess which option is more favorable for the developers in terms of time and effort?

What even is the great advantage of a 2-seater mount? It's a convenience, yes, but an extremely small one.

Besides, I was kind of under the impression that the "paid" version of the wedding is only cosmetic. It's still the same quests and useful reward; the ring that lets you teleport immediately to your in-game spouse, which is still not -that- big of game changer. The best that does is save you some change and a few moments of sprinting.

I actually think this is a rather unique idea. "Marriage" is supposed to be a commitment. What better way to show a commitment than to spend real money on it?

I guess our white feathered wedding pony will then mean, spousal support. In real life of course, since we showed commitment with real money.

An RP thing, of which half the stuff just vanished behind a pay wall. So for people who aren't interested in raiding but in RPing, the cash shop turned 'Pay to play', which Yoshi said wouldn't happen.

I've yet to see a pay to win item in the cash shop. Until then, I can't complain. All these services are optional, since you can still get married, but not receive the items. They don't give any advantage at all, as some users already stated. If they can make profit and increase the amount of content being released out of COSMETIC stuff, which are completely optional and don't break the game's balance over the players that won't pay a penny for it... I don't see any problem. At all.
