SCH is in a different category than SMN in that healer gear naturally comes with PIE, and Energy Drain isn't a DPS loss for SCH. Prolonged fights with adds included will gradually drain SMN MP, especially since their MP Regen rate is slow due to very low PIE.
^ Also, A SCH literally has 4 things to use Aetherflow stacks on. 1: Lustrate 2: Sacred Soil and 3: Energy Drain. 4: Bane. The Last 2 of these are MP savers. Lustrate/Soil are both used, however generally NOT 3 times per minute. So instead, you generally go 1 lustrate 2 E-Drain. You get ~1,000 MP per Aetherflow, +266 MP Per E-Drain. For a total of over Half the MP Pool of a Summoner. PER MINUTE. Their MP issues are essentially non-existant.
Skipping Raises, of course - you essentially get 1 FREE raise per minute starting at around 4200 MP - Easily reachable as a SCH. Raise = 798 MP Per raise, Aetherflow for 800+ each = free raise.
That and, as a healer, asking for ballad is a wipe-or-not situation, so generally you'll get ballad NP.
well if a SMN runs out of mp in fight, hes very bad for sure. a good SMN should know when to fester or to energydrain and should have 0-300 mp at the end of the fight.
SMN is very hard to master, cause there are a lot of things u can do to optimize ur dps.
for example: poison potions duration can be extended with contagion. most smn dont even know that.

I guess I really need to get into incorporating potions into my SMN rotation.
I would highly suggest SMN. I mained tank last patch and am maining Brd this one but both times the job i really wanna play, happens to be SMN.
Maybe this is just my noob self speaking as someone who is still progressing on t10 but... I'm not really seeing a need to rework the class.
I'm pulling enough dps to beat enrage without running out of MP. Does that mean I'm doing it wrong?
Besides, what's the point of having resources if you're just gonna make them limitless? Shifting around your play style, pausing for a second to regen a bit, dropping Miasma II (honestly the MP cost far outweighs the dps boost), you can do all of these and still make the DPS checks. Their are times where min/maxing isn't the way to go.
People don't run the marathon like they do the 100-meter dash. It's possible to conserve and sustain while still doing DPS above the enrage threshold.
Every class can beat enrage, that's never an issue in FFXIV if your players are competent except in T13. The problem is other classes, very specifically BLM, can do more DPS without ever running out of resources.
Resource management is fine, in theory. In practice, TP users all live basically on the same lifeline, Army's Paeon and their own Invigorates, thus they all get taken care of in one fell swoop; essentially, in most cases, TP song is either not needed, or it's guaranteed to come. SMN shares resources with healers, who in most cases will never need Ballad, thus when they have resource issues, it is clearly and specifically both nerfing your BRD's DPS and using up BRD MP to let SMN stay afloat. This is a problem balance wise.
