So if you really want to "Stand up" to SE, why haven't you canceled subscription ?

They get a few warnings first as they start pushing the boundaries. Meanwhile I start taking more interest in what new games are coming out, and if FFXIV goes too far down the slippery slope to F2P I will cancel my subscription, just as I did for TERA and for AION before that. It won't be a protest cancellation, but I just don't like that kind of game and the community it attracts. It's sad when it happens, but it's always fun to try something new.

FF14 is not the only Pay to Play MMO that has a cash shop. Unlike most other Free to Play MMOs, the cash shop isn't used to restrict your inventory, your ability to craft, your ability to access the maps at a reasonable price, it doesn't give you over-powered items or buffs, and it doesn't feel in any way, shape, or form like it's pay to win. It's Vanity, it's things you don't ever ever need and does not hinder you in any way, shape, or form.

Would it be nice if we could get some of these perks in-game? Sure! But you still get the dress and the hairstyles and the rings and the actual ceremony itself in-game. The money transaction only gives you more options and an extra mount/minion for loving the game enough to spend money on it so they can develop it even more.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with an extra paid plan for the Eternal Bond ceremony, because everything that is important to it is already in-game for free.

So...use the free option? You're paying for extra vanity. Do you NEED the extras? Is your ability to play going to be hindered? Do you think the final boss in the third part of CT will have insta-kill on players who entered Eternal Bonding but didn't pay extra?

Exactly. We are PAYING for it already. Why do we have to pay twice? I have NO problem buying this stuff in F2P games. I don't mind giving devs of F2P games money for vanity, wedding, etc and I have in the past, because its a nice way to say thank you for the game as I don't pay a sub.

With this, well this is just a HUGE disappointment.

That comes from the same d××k move they pulled with personal housing, specifically all the teasing and showing off the "extra stuff" for months, and then going and changing all that to "oh by the way you won't be getting any of this unless you pay some more" basically a week before the actual content goes live - like how they did with everything about personal housing. Nobody expected it, so of course there is outrage; I wouldn't call it comical, it's bad PR and a bad way of treating ... no, not the players but their already regularly paying customers.

We've already had this same discussion in regards to the cash shop release. No one cares anymore. This'll be blown over in less than a month.

Of course everyone treats this like it'll kill the game. Just like letting Coil 1 and 2 be added to duty finder did, just like when they added ilvl, and my favorite, just like the removal of the bees in Amdapor Keep.

Only single other P2P MMO that does it is WoW and plenty of people have called them out on their practices too. Besides even they announce their plans well in advance many months ahead and clearly state which things will be cash shop only, not just a week or two before it's implemented after teasing the special items for over a year.

You ARE aware that your subscription fee doesn't cover developments costs forever right? That they still need to make extra revenue, because not everyone is paying for every month, just some of them. Just ask any other MMO that was P2P that went F2P how their subscriptions covered everything and they didn't NEED to make the switch to F2P. (Aion, Star Wars, DnD, DC Universe, LotR, just to name a few)

Just because you pay for the subscription, doesn't mean they will always have all the money they need to make this game. The Cash Shop exists for this purpose, and exists for the sole purpose of giving you things that do not hinder gameplay in any way. They are extra hats, or a mount (of which you can get like 12 in-game already) or extra minions.
