This game is not doomed because you have to pay extra for EXTRA things that don't affect anything other than MOUNTS, GLAMOURS, and MINIONS. I mean this is basically what cash shops are for: Extra stuff that expands upon something you DON'T have to pay for.
Even going back as far as the original EverQuest, they had paid services years before they ever went f2p. Hell they had them years before the idea of cash shops was ubiquitous. Hell they had ultra super duper premium content before anyone else did. Boy howdy did people complain, but it wasn't until the market exploded with competition they weren't prepared to handle as well as their own sequel that they implemented a full cash shop and went f2p.
I really wish people would stop claiming the sky is falling when it's merely raining.
No one's forcing you to pay this money, so speak with your wallet and stop proclaiming DOOM over pretty dresses and a coin operated minister.

i will simply say this, why pay a sub fee in this case? because this subs is used for devellop any new content of the game! when you pay a sub fee, you support the game... it means:
- the server maintenance or upgrade when is needed
- the devellopement of content for the game (patch, expansion, event,...)
- the correction of bug
- the support service

and many more stuff.
but there, the cash they did earn from us, was stealed, it's true! because they did use it for devellop content that will be overcharge! when it's a contract between them and them player, a moral one, that say, we supportthem by paying a sub for make them bring us more stuff! not make stuff for force us to pay more for get acces to it!

the worst, it's we still await some large improvement of the game, like a better server allowing more charge than the one we have right now! a PC version that are in 64bits and can support the last DirectX version. (stuff promise for arrive 6month after the release of ARR and that not will come before the expansion release more of 1 years and 6 month after the release of ARR....)

Now i hear you say, "But...subscription. I payz it" but the way I see it is similar to Xbox Live, PS Plus, Amazon Prime, Spotify, and dozens other sub services:

Can't speak for any of the other "sub" fees but PS plus gets you several free games per month (download one of the nice ones and all you sub fee is essentially given back to you in the form of a game) and Amazon prime gets you so much free shipping that if you order stuff regularly anyway it is like saying pay x amount per year for all of your shipping and the rest is free.

So at least those two you get something for your money more than just an access fee, and generally worth more than your sub fee in stuff you would have had to spend that money on any way.

I can understand when you pay to get something "old" (Legacy stuff or Seasonals) or when you pay for information beforehand (trailers, HD liveletters, backstage, talk with the producer, and so on...)

That comes from the same d××k move they pulled with personal housing, specifically all the teasing and showing off the "extra stuff" for months, and then going and changing all that to "oh by the way you won't be getting any of this unless you pay some more" basically a week before the actual content goes live - like how they did with everything about personal housing. Nobody expected it, so of course there is outrage; I wouldn't call it comical, it's bad PR and a bad way of treating ... no, not the players but their already regularly paying customers.

So...use the free option? You're paying for extra vanity. Do you NEED the extras? Is your ability to play going to be hindered? Do you think the final boss in the third part of CT will have insta-kill on players who entered Eternal Bonding but didn't pay extra?

No one's forcing you to buy the upgraded plans.

There's still a FREE service that will get you the Eternal Bond you supposedly so desperately wanted. Suddenly, though, there's a plan with a few more bells and whistles and now the basic plan isn't good enough for you. That's something you need to work out in your own warped perception of things.
