And here we go. The Square-Enix White Knight Squad has arrived.
Keep up the good job, guys. Soon we'll have to pay for every patch ala DLC, too.
Can I say "I told you" already?

This is hardly "gateing content" the event is freely available. The 2 person mount is a luxury for now you either pay for it or wait for them to release a free one.
Comparing this to pay to raid is extreme and alarmist. If it came to that yes I would complain so would anyone else but this is just more glamour.
The 2 person mounts lost a lot of appeal when colored chocobos came out and more so when hunting died. I do understand the frustration for those that skipped the refer a friend to hopefully get one free from eternal bonding. But as I said you can just pay or wait. Granted I do not see any reason for them to ever make 2 person mounts attainable. I expect next we will see 2 person flying mount in expansion.

The difference is just that you happen to care about raiding more than glamour, while people who care more about glamour than raiding get screwed over. Trust me, there are people who would say it's perfectly fine if the situations were reversed here, and you were screwed out of your free raids, while they kept their free glamour. And they'd be no more in the right than you are.
I agree with this post. Glamour is a big deal to a lot of people to the point where it's more important then raiding. All glamour options should be part of the free plan. Having the mounts/minions part of the premium plan is fine. The difference is just that you happen to care about raiding more than glamour, while people who care more about glamour than raiding get screwed over. I can't wait to tell my FC that I care about raids more than glamour. I have only been in t7 1 time(have not beat it). i have only beat t6 3 times and none until it was nerfed. I spend enough on items to glamour that I could have a top tier crafter but I waste my money changing my appearance maybe 4-5 a month per class. I have died in HM primal fights because i had my camera too close due to pure vanity and desire to see myself.
I am sorry that the game has not allowed you to escape from the have and the have nots of the real world. Write it into your fanfiction.
I am all for Square making as much money as they can I hope XIV becomes the central pillar of their income and funds every other project they take on. If it keeps the game running and the board members form pulling its resources I am for it.

You say that, but do you know how many people in XIV actually raid? Very little. I'm pretty sure more people care about what the minority considers "vanity" than raiding as a whole. If they did put a price on raiding, there would be complaining from the vocal minority on the forums, but everyone else would stay silent. SE putting a price tag on things the majority cares about is a bad idea for a sub based game - putting a price tag on raids would actually affect less people than what is currently happening.

...someone here made a joke about how gated / extremely out of reach Eternal Bond would be, based on past experiences, listing a lot of ridiculous requirements - I just saw the post the other day, but for the life of me I can't find it again.NEVERMIND here it is.
But SWEET MENPHINA it really did turn out to be at least in some way relevant. @_@ Seriously......"-Between both participants, at least one must own a private residence.
-Both participants must pay a 3 million gil fee.
-All other individuals attending pay a 750,000 gil fee.
-Due to server stress, only 2 ceremonies per day can happen at a time, so interested parties must reserve their date either immediately after servers re-open or weeks in advance.
-Upon designated date/time, participants must present a "Eternal Bond Celebratory Cake" (4-star Culinarian recipe that must be HQ'd from NQ-only ingredients) or participants forfeit their reservation. *note, your gil spent to reserve a date will not be refunded*"
To answer the actual question - I don't even have anyone I want to be bonded with, so good job on another bit of content that's gonna be irrelevant - I imagine not only for me.

So this is what we get thanks to all the blind fools defending the cash shop. I knew SE will push it as soon as i logged on the day of the patch and Mor Dhona was full of people with Odin mounts. This is a deadline for me. I have been playing since release non stop but i see where the game is going and i don't like it.
At this point it's clear they are going to cash grab for gold saucer too and who knows what else. The next thing we see is new housing and airship will be cash shop only.
And somehow you seem to believe that they won't try to nickel and dime you with their other projects afterwards, because they'll have made enough money from FFXIV, hmm?

I think you mistook raiding for world first competition. To say very few people raid is wildly inaccurate. I consider raiding just another way to get glamour gear and further the story. Casual raiding is still raiding and if SE wanted us to pay for it more than a minority would be against it.
I find it amusing that you would use the phrase Vocal Minority in your argument when the odin mount has made it pretty clear plenty are willing to throw SE cash for items. I do not deny it is a cash grab, as I said I do not have a problem with the company that makes my game making money of of those willing to give it.
I wish i had the screen shots for the comparison in the items they are not that different they made the items red so you could see the subtle differences. If they had been white you may not have even noticed.
