It didn't seem like anyone articulated it yet. When you press Need or Greed a number between 1-99 is generated. Like rolling a dice.
Highest number wins, however any number in the Need section will always trump the agreed section.

You can see your number over the loot icon after rolling.

It's always better to raid with a group of friends, otherwise the DF people will either completely ignore your request to not roll on the item, or win it and leave right afterwards. They won't even commend you if that happens. Good luck though!

u forgot to mention u dont get commendations with premade groups tho so if want the mount have to risk df runs n hope for them :P
