Lets not forget in 1.0 shards, crystals and clusters dropped off every single mob.

They also came with the things you gathered instead of being the thing you gathered. "Oh, you timed your swing correctly and got a copper ore from the minigame (basic minigame, yes, but still not QUITE so mindless...)? Take a couple of freebie earth and fire shards with that!"
And yet RMT still find a way around the sending mail issue by having multiple accounts tied to one computer.
Honestly, and no offense to the development team in charge of seeing to RMT counter measures, But all of these counter measures are ineffective and only seek to hinder the legit players. If they really want to get rid of the RMT blight, they'd do what they did in FFXI and block the country where most of the RMT IP addresses stem from for the NA/EU and JP servers. It was a tough decision to make on their part when they did this, but when it was first announced and after the first week of this decision being made, there were zero RMT tells and zero advertisements being made by RMT bots.
It may have cut down on them (which is a great thing, don't get me wrong!) but I doubt it destroyed them.
For one thing, it's INCREDIBLY easy for people who aren't even tech savvy to use VPN software that can mask their country of origin.
For another, not all gil/gold sellers come from a single country. They often hire out of the NA and EU (I used to know a girl in Canada that worked for a WoW gold selling group for instance) and to block their countries would block the bulk of the legitimate player base as well. Before you know it, us Aussies would probably be the only ones left able to play XD
Unlike in Version 1.0, each type of crystal has been re-designed to be their own unique and individual item. Shards are shards, crystals are crystals and clusters are clusters. As such there are no plans to add a feature to downgrade from one type to another.

How about a shard trader in every major city then? It will still adhere to the "individuality" and "uniqueness" of the item but can simply be traded, like with gil for armor. No need to downgrade/breakdown, simply trade, no need to be disciple of hand. Water to water, fire to fire, etc, to prevent trading for more in demand types.
i don't think you realize the redundancy of what you just said.

Can you clarify this statement? Are clusters a different item mechanically and in the lore and not just a large collection of crystals? Do they lose their power when smacked with a hammer and no one can figure out why?
...an in-game justification would be nice.
Then can you add a feature wherein it is possible to obtain shards yourself in a reasonable amount of time? Buff the DoL ability to harvest more?

this... i see nothing wrong with this. and shouldn't have a significant impact on the market.
