the only thing i dont like about this is players geting the loot, why do you need it you have poetics anyway. this loot should be a status symbol for beating difficult content as well as a mark of a good player (of course ppl can cheat this with carries anyway). i really dont care about the content being made faceroll easy or there being no gating on patch day. hell let these people that cant get past t5 go into current fcob right now and try it i really dont mind.

also points have been made about wasted dev time and such since not everyone will play this. well i personaly dont do crafting/pvp/hunts/relic so from my perspective that would be wasted dev time too since its irrelevant to me (and many many others), but you dont see me complaining heh.

There's a cap on poetics; this allows someone to gear up very quickly to a level where they can start Final Coil.

And this doesn't just help the "casuals"; what if there's a shake-up on a relatively hardcore team's roster and they need to gear up a replacement member right now? Or what if someone needs a new job geared ASAP?

It's always interesting how it's rarely ever the proper top-end folks who complain about this sort of thing... because most top-end raiders love catch-up mechanics for making the Roster Boss no longer A Thing.

The people that can join statics and/or sub for others have probably already cleared at least T6-T7 at this point in time. We did some T6 and T7 post-patch last night actually, needed two subs, and said "hey let's use DF". The new player got hit by every blighted (getting killed sometimes as well) and couldn't dodge acid. The other tank couldn't figure out where to put the slugs for a burn strat (who said he'd done this before). We ended up having to do party finder and get actual competent subs.

You got have a good static that knows what they are doing to be able to burn raffy in around 2 minutes. I was help subbing for some supposed T6 farm runs last night. Yet people wiped 3 times before getting the clear, it sure was not a 2 minute burn of raffy. Had to res a couple of players from blighted, including the other healer. It is not sad to see that dedicated players can hit a ball out of the park, it merely show what people can aim to do if they try. Adjusting T6 so top player can score the home runs, while the rest can get on base is good thing for everyone.

Let me say this outright: gear is not a status symbol. It never really was to begin with, except in the minds of raiders. Gear is only a means to an end, that end being the content. It's there as a crutch to enable you to keep leveling once you reach the hard cap. It gives the developers control over the pace of the game, etc, etc.

WoW has been working for some time to downplay the importance of gear, while trying to give people other items, like achievements, titles, minions, etc. as proof of their accomplishments. Those are more long lasting anyways. Why the hell do you pin you pride on something you're going to replace, when an exclusive title is more permanent.

Gear has always been considered a status symbol since the dawn of visual MMOs. Even in MUDs it was to an extent. Just like people having certain makes of cars (say Ferrari) has been seen a status symbol - It's something you "earned/obtained."

Only because they (and everyone who follows in Blizzard's footsteps) invalidates the gear you worked hard for in the next update. Otherwise Minions/titles etc become meaningless the more they overstature them. "GODSLAYER BLAH BLAH" means so little when there's something higher than the said god you slain in the next update.

First, simply because people consider gear a status symbol doesn't warrant the dev treating it as such. But most raiders will never understand that.

I originally was going to mention the transition. You're right, early MUDs, Everquest, and WoW treated gear as the goal of the endgame. However, WoW has slowly been changing away to more story driven and FFXIV is definitely story driven. In these games, the story is more important, and the purpose of gear is nothing more than to serve as a soft leveling mechanic so the dev can create harder challenges.

But this will fall on deaf ears.

There's a reason it's called MUDflation; The term did originate in Everquest, but's it's a reference to DikuMUD. Blizzard most certainly did not start this trend.

Lovely how you play the elitist card when you fail to clear something fast enough to get on the train. I assume everyone doing FCoB is an elitist, then.

Dumb discussion. Dumb and pointless. SE already nerfed coil and they will keep nerfing old content. There's nothing anybody can do about it.
People that finished that content should leave the players doing the catch-up keep telling themselves they are catching up on something. Just move on. WoW and it's 10mi subscriptions, it's multiple (USELESS) expansions (that you have to pay for to be allowed into the current content, even if you will just burn through and never even realize you were there) and it's adorable community is there to prove it's a lost battle. Let the nerfs come, people pretend they never did that content simply because they hate rope jumping and finally have a chance to progress. After all, that's how Modern MMO's (sadly... nobody cares about the RPG part) are supposed to be. Stop being so elitist.
