Unless it's FFXIV, PS4 requires you to have PS+ to play online, I don't have it but I can still play XIV alright which is good as I don't fancy having to pay well twice for 1 thing then again PS+ dose offer you quite alot.
But players are paying twice for these items; you paid for these in game items once with your sub and now if you ever want them again you'll be paying twice in the cash shop.
I understand SE doesn't want to lose any possible revenue, but they have a steady increase of revenue with the minions. These items are a black mark on that cash shop, and despite the outcry the only response we've gotten has been Yoshi stating the proceeds will be going to housing servers. I don't mean to sound nitpicky here, it was nice to at the very least have a response. However, this is still a very relevant and serious issue. Just b/c players have stopped posting doesn't mean they've accepted anything. Some players have quit, while other players continue to play with added bitterness.
At the very least there could be some sort of compromise. I truly don't understand why they can't see players a measure way with this.. even in the slightest.

That's kind of only partly true. If you were paying for a sub at the time and completed the necessary quests, you can still get these items at the Salvager without using the cash shop. So it'd be people who either a) weren't paying a sub at the time, or b) were paying a sub but either didn't do the quests (or were using a different character), who would have to use the cash shop. The most probable target would be new players who weren't paying subs last year, hence didn't "pay for it", so to speak.
Tbh I have to agree with polyphonica on this, I only started playing this past April so I didn't have an active subscription during October last year. I'm also not a big fan of single-piece "costume" gearsets that can't be easily glamored, or items that are designed so specifically for their holiday event that they look weird if you use them during other parts of the year, so I haven't bothered to get them off the cash shop either. So I can't really say that I've even paid once for those items. I think I'd be more annoyed by the concept of double-paying if they'd removed the calamity salvager from the game along with the event vendors, and forced me to have to go back and re-buy anything I might lose, that my sub actually had given me in-game access to.
I mean, it does suck that I have to pay extra outside of my current sub if I want the item rather than grabbing it off the event vendor, but even those vendors were a part of past events, and my current month's sub still wouldn't technically cover them if SE chose not to add them in the future.
