That way you will never end up with extra materials that you chuck at your retainer and tell him to "preserve this popoto" for who knows how long!
Your solution is "just throw everything away to get more inventory space." Also ...do you seriously buy all the mats before crafting something?! This is a terrible idea! The game promotes being self sufficient by allowing you to level every single class on the same character. The amount of inventory space goes against this.

Hoarding crafting materials is something a crafter should be doing, by their very nature. Throwing away gil when the game promotes otherwise should not be considered a solution to the inventory problem.

The armory provides all that extra inventory per gear slot (was it 25 or 30?) on top of 300 slots of inventory.

We have a considerable amount of inventory even despite the extra classes. Some people are just pack rats and feel the need to save everything.
The Armory Chest is irrelevant because it can only hold gear, and I'm not running out of inventory space trying to hold gear. The Armory Chest does a good job with storing gear, but if I could use the extra space not being used by the jewelry tabs (these are the only tabs with any kind of meaningful space left, along with offhand) as regular inventory space, that would be great! Selling all of my crafting mats (never more than one stack of something, except hot items like electrum ore, dzemael tomatoes, fleece, etc) as an omni-crafter, would be asinine.

I only want to be able to reasonably play all the classes available to me. This includes the crafting and gathering classes. The amount of inventory space does not lend to this, and it would be nice if gatherers and crafters had some sort of separate storage for materials.
