We're talking about the weight of the weapon skills. What does that have to do with a PC's situational awareness? As for that Elezen's Savage Blade? I don't expect anyone but a strength trainer (or M Highlander, M Roegadyn) would be able to push all of their body and armor weight forward on top of the weight of a metal sword and shield (in either hand) and swing them around in an arc like they were made out of plastic. Which, consequently, is what all of the weapons in ARR seem to be made of. It really just comes down to the animations not matching the character's stature, speed of animation, sound effects, and screen effects not playing nice together.

I'm speaking from memory. Is that a crime?

That's the thing, though. The Elezen isn't making me think that he's covered in armor. He's making me think that he just doesn't care. Nothing weighted about it. Same with the other animations in the primal videos here. As for speaking from memory, I guess I'm just wondering what sparked your nostalgia.
