I love this game but I do think they toss things aside too fast... i really think they need to do something in 3.0 that adds side grades and add something that caters to midcore players.

In addition, I know I'll get flamed for this, but they need to roadblock people more. The player base is too clustered. People need to be spread out more so that dungeons and zones are used more than just passing through.

The beauty of the game is that you can level all classes, and I guess that's why gear falls from the sky so u can gear them out but... i dunno. Maybe they need some solo content that if u can't beat it it blocks you from a chunk of content. U wanna switch to an alt and gear up from X dungeon? Can't do it until you pass a solo trial per job...

    Maybe...

I am taking my own sweet time with this game by NOT rushing content. That would ruin the fun out of the game, FAST. I find it enjoyable leveling all of my classes and jobs at the same time, using the same gear and also creating the gear while progressing through the story. Sure, I am grinding content before going forward in the story, but I am not tired by it and it actually prepares me so I know how to play my job and classes correctly.

Lets hope this expansion adds alot of stuff to do in this game that last more then 6 weeks.
Bland? No. Simplistic? Yes. has limited endgame content? Depends on who you ask, I think there's a lot. Limited jobs? Dark knight, gun job, healer job, and ninja are a good chunk to add on, and who knows, there might be more where that came from too!

Long story short the bland remark was uncalled for and I think you should be a little more forgiving! The game only had 2 years development, I can promise you no good, high production value mmo came out within 2 years of development (although the game's concept of story and some mechanics were taken from 1.0 it's still impressive!)

I'm taking the fanboy cap off for this one.

This game has endless potential, but it's clear it's not being entirely used. We see some patterns that repeat, so there's no evolution. The tomes will have a limit, and then new tomes will have a limit, and so forth.

We continue to see this copy-paste with minor enemies and bosses. It also seems like the devs are scared of making regular content too challenging, apparently the only challenging thing in this game are coil and extreme primals, the new dungeons, despite being beautifully designed they were ridiculously easy.

If they want to improve this game, they need to break the pattern, they need to expand this game beyond what people expect, surprise us with innovation, stop playing it safe.

do you really expect a 6-month-old-now-irrelevant-raid by design to have relevant gear ? Vertical progression MMOs. That is your explanation. New content throws away the old one.

BTW, there is no such thing as "raid tiers". There are "gearing tiers", and raid gear enters those gearing tiers. It's always the best of a tier though (it's been 10 month now that group gear cannot compare to raid gear)

Modern MMOs have more players playing daily than the oldies. Because they actually appeal to the masses and don't require stupid dedication to be able to do anything relevant. People may play less time per day with longer breaks, but they play longer overall and they are way more playing.

Yup. FFXIV follows the same style as WoW and has been successful doing so, but they could have built on 1.0 instead of copying WoW.

The difference is you can actually see that FF XI had a base that was built for actually expanding content instead of cycling it. Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urghan, even the base game updates - until Abyssea and Adoulin none of the content was suddenly "invalidated" by a more recent addition. Content was supplemented rather than replaced which is why that content was lasting. That is not the case in XIV and so far they are showing nothing that would imply they are breaking free of that model. There is absolutely no reason to go back to content in this game aside from the game forcing you do it (Or through really thinly veiled "quests" like the entire Relic ugprade where you're constantly doing content that was relevant about one year ago now).

This isn't FF XI, it's not going to be FF XI, but that doesn't mean they can't at least learn some lessons from FF XI when designing content. When Heavensward comes out everything in the base game will probably be regarded the same as fights like HM Primals, CT1, and even some of the EX Fights + Coil 1 are. Obsolete, irrelevant, "Just gear up with tomes", etc. Then you have 4 man dungeons (Especially the new ones) which serve literally no purpose other than forcing players to go through fights which were outgeared before they even came out so that they can hit their new tome cap.

The only thing that is keeping me playing is the hope that at some point they realize that fast-tracking everyone to the newest content at the expense of making everything that came before it irrelevant is not the best model to follow. The game world should be evolving and expanding. Instead what happens is that we get new content that is very relevant for a few months, then it becomes slightly less relevant, then finally it becomes defunct and SE searches for a way to shoehorn players back into it.

Yoshida is the best. He learns and tries his best.
There are too many producers with an ego...Yoshida is a humble man and understands that not everything he does is good and learns from it and makes it better the next time.

He has so many good qualities because he learns.

They've made harder dungeons, and dumped all of the 'old' content into one gigantic roulette which now covers 11 dungeons, when even previously it had eight! The newer 'extreme' roulette retains a mere 3 dungeons, by comparison.

Each patch seems to make yesterdays content meaningless or fast-tracks everyone to be on the same page. It makes large portions of the game utterly meaningless except as a brief stepping stone to the newer shiny content. I mean, did anyone honestly do repeat guildhests other than as a necessary evil for a quest?

People love to hate the old FFXIV 1.0, and with good reason. But they threw out a lot of the GOOD mechanics as well as the bad ones when they did the redesign. Lessons were learned, but not necessarily fully understood. This game still has a lot of potential, which is what keeps me playing beside the storyline and occasionally awesome sidequests. It's not too late for Yoshi to fix the big issues before FFXIV becomes stale and unappetising.
Glad someone gets it. It is like talking to a fence post with most modern MMO players. "4 raids whats wrong with that!? That other stuff is a whole 5 MONTHS old!!!! I mean hell when something is 5 months old we may as well take it out back and shoot it."

Which is the core issue with modern MMOs and modern MMO players. They think a MMO is meant to be picked up played for a few months (at which point you have already made it to end game) then move on to the next thing.

A Veteran MMO gamer knows that the experience of the game is stretched out over years, and if crafted properly, it leaves players with some of the best gaming experiences to be found anywhere.

Let me get this straight, you think SE should keep the gear progression as is? So, as a new level 50, I should need to progress through all previous content before I get to experience the new content? So, using WoW as an analogy, I should need to do all classic, TBC, Wrath, Cata, and MoP raids before I can do WoD raids? Do you not see the immediate problem with that?

Expanding on the current content for the 2.X series only works until 3.0 is released, the level cap is boosted, MUDflation takes effect, and SE has to make sure we can all level past 60. I wonder how you're going to feel when you're during a normal level 60+ dungeon, ilvl130+ gear drops?
