Only a pver disguised as a pvper would support grinding of any form in a pvp environment.

In his defense, I doubt he's a win trader. He probably just grinded the shit out of that to gain ranks across GCs once FL came out. Many have done it.

Actually, it's not an excuse. Not switching GCs is neither a fault nor offense, so the reason for not doing it need not defend the action of not doing it, as would be required for the reason to be considered an excuse. It is a reason; nothing more, nothing less.

I've already been to hell and back explaining why the PvP ranks being tied to GCs is a bad idea from a game design standpoint, it both serving no realistic purpose and being unfun and seemingly-punishing to the player, so I'll just leave it at that. I don't like it being tied to GC.
