Hate to break it too you but the whole game in general is not for casuals....@Squeenix Mod Team:
I am finding really troubling trends in FFXIV, especially since itiis an MMO that touts itself as "casual".
Specifically, I log on at irregular times and for short bursts here and there. In my time playing I have saved a hefty sum of money and finally thought it might be nice to buy a house. HOWEVER, logging in just two hours after the maintenance ALL S-size houses on my server sold out, including the high-price new lots (Lots 31+). Most were bought by individuals and not FCs. Moreover, I overheard about how some bought several houses for various mules.
I understand the deal with legit endgame stuff, but having to blitz into the game like it's opening time on Black Friday is ridiculous.

@Shneibel
Why, pray tell, is 2 hours, or even a day, or even a week after wards are added "too late"? You're saying that I have to call in sick that day of work in order to be able to get online just for the chance of getting a house? If you truly believe that, I'm sorry, but that's a very sad perspective.
No, I believe, rather than my being too late, that Squeenix is just grossly under prepared to meet demand or unable to code the game in a streamlined manner. The way housing is handled here is not NEARLY as resource intensive as they are leading you to believe.
@Sartori: The game was sold as a casual game, it was touted as a "game for casual players". That's what the devs promised and what the advertisements sold the game as. Now, if they haven't matched what they said they'd do, that's another issue entirely.
There are pros and cons to being in a high pop server. Increased competition is one of the cons.

I completely agree that it hoses over the largest servers. As of last night, Siren still had tons of S sized houses in the additional wards. Any of the really large or legacy servers though and those were gone in less than an hour. This isn't a casual/hardcore thing though. It's about either being in the right timezone, not having a conflicting work schedule, or being willing to lose sleep. Plenty of casual players have those traits.
I have a personal house and I want this.
Yeah, it mostly is and I'm pretty happy about that.

That complete utter misrepresentation of the facts, tarring things with too wide a brush. Not to mention terms like casuals are poorly defined. In any case the OP is pointing out only one aspect that isn't, and there is nothing wrong when personal housing is a trophy/vanity that has to be earned, since you do get easy housing with a FC, get personal rooms with the FC, share garden and chocobo with a FC. You get your own free inn room. There plenty of housing options easily accessible, but those get taken for granted and forgotten.
I know one person who owns 4 houses on my server... It's stupid frankly. 100% agree that it should be limited to 1 house per server per SE ID.

They should rename the game Final Reality XIV: A Capitalist Realm.
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the reason they formed the housing system to the point where the people in charge of housing looked at real estate and took that, instead of making housing reasonably obtainable, since its a fantasy world and people shouldn't practically alter their lives and neglect life responsibilities all for housing, which is just a side feature. To see a FFXIV version of the the 1% rich and famous, should not belong in this game in the first place. Obtaining multiple plots reminds me of a Monopoly, staying up late at night like the opening of purchasing rooms in a new apartment complex, and a game that has near similar concepts as these things? This should be nowhere near an MMO fantasy world.
All in all, I personally wanted a mansion, but since SE made it unrealistically obtainable for me, I'll have to either save up for 3.0's Ishgard implementation, or never participate in one of my favorite things that a game can offer, because by the time I DO have enough for a mansion, the other people who have more time than I do to save up will get it first.
